I've now been to 2 golf tournaments: Rory and Sergio won.

Actually driving down to Hilton Head on Wednesday to watch a practice round at the RBC Heritage. Brenden Grace won it last year.

Also, this is the tournament where they give the winner an ugly plaid jacket

Just got done walking 18 and catching a pro-am at the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head. A few things:

1. Harbor Town is a beautiful course, but seeing as how I am just a week removed from Augusta National, I was underwhelmed. At it is flat. Very flat.

2. Sheesh! These "am" in the pro-am are awful. I don't know how the guys like Dufner, Poulter, Haas, Knox, Na, McDowell, Grace and the rest of the pros can handle playing with guys this bad. I'm serious. Now, I'm terrible at golf, but there is no way I would sign up for this torture. I had to duck 3 or 4 times.

3. The winner of this tournament wins a plaid jacket. It looks ridiculous.

Well, after almost 20 years of use I've retired my old clubs (Titleist DCI gold triangles) that I've been using wellllll pretty much forever (since my freshmen year of high school). The only reason I've kept these damn things is because I hit them really, really well for 20+ year old irons and haven't seen the reason to replace them until this happened........

I went out to play a round this past weekend w/ my buddies and after my drive on the first hole I went to grab my PW and it was MIA. I called the past couple courses I played and nothing in the lost and found. I searched for another club like it, but being left handed the search came up empty.

Just bought a new set of Ping G25 irons (well, they'll be new to me...I bought them used online) and after doing some research on a number of different irons these didn't even get much of a hint of negative reviews (from individuals or from golf publications). I can't wait to get these out on the course.

I'm still using a 1973 (I think) version of the Hogan Apex blades with steel stiff shafts.

I've got a set of old like 1997 Tommy Armour 855s as well with steel shift staffs and bought a newerish set of pings 5 years ago on craiglist for a friend that was coming to town, but I just can't quit the blades. Ripping a 2 iron which I do about once a year feels so good. Man they're awesome.

I agree, I've never adopted this "hybrid" club BS, but unfortunately these G25's are only a 4-PW w/ an attack wedge; shoot, half the sets I found (albeit they were RH anyway) were only 5 or 6 iron - PW!!. I need to have stiff flex shafts as well, which made the search even harder for a new set. But I'm going to miss not having a 3 iron (I may just throw my ol' DCI in the bag), I've never really hit a 2 iron, but I don't mind low irons one bit. Although, I've been known to scald the [expletive] out of a 3 (well, I've scalded every damn club in the bag, so none are safe!!), so I'm sure it'd happen w/ a 2 as well.

Everything I've read say these G25's are pretty damn forgiving on mis-hits all across the board, and while they say it forgiveness reaches the low irons, I'm not sure I'd consider a 4 a "low" iron...that's more reserved for the 3, 2, and 1 iron.....if you can even find one these days.

I got my $$$ worth out of the ol DCI's.

I determined I just can't play w/o a PW. That's the club I use from 120 in, and from all around the greens and since I didn't have a gap or attack wedge it was my most used club...the SW is reserved for the sand only. I shot like complete [expletive] this past weekend (hit a 93), it was embarrassing.

Ha. It's funny how we all have our favorite clubs. My dad used hogan blades for a long time as well, the ones i'm using now are his old ones. He bought a set of those godawful callaway big bertha irons back in the 90s.

But, he could not let his old equalizer (PW) go. He had a 2-9 set of Callaways, the Callaway PW and then the equalizer. Apparently there was about a 10 yard difference between the equalizer and callaway PW. He finished the bag off with a driver, 3 wood, SW and putter. After a year or so he realized what a disadvantage it was to not have a 5 wood or, as was becoming popular around that time, a 7 wood or hybrid and got rid of the equalizer.

About that time, my competitive playing career was ending and I always loved those hogans, perhaps more for nostalgic reasons than functional purposes. I came home from college once and played with some friends. Switched out the 855s fr the Hogans and shot 72 (humblebrag) on a pretty tough course and have never looked back.

For a long, long time, I fell in love with this 54 (iirc) degree wedge and used it almost exclusively from within 120 or so yards. It had lead weight where the sole met with the blade on the back. Sand, chips, flops, whatever, that was my club. Then, it broke when I tried a flop shot out of the woods near the green. It was a terrible idea; I was right under a tree where I could get a swing, and there was a tall evergreen and a bunker between me and the green which was maybe only 20 yards away. I thought I could just flip one straight up in the air. Obviously all the weight is back and I'm trying to almost scoop the ball up and swing hard. I hit this rock thing under the ground and snap.

Probably salvageable though the hosel looked bad, but at that time didn't know anyone to do it and was more worried about partying than tinkering with golf clubs. Shame.

All that sad, yeah, it's no fun to [expletive] * those blades. There is no forgiveness in them. Every now and then I'll get one off the toe and just shake my head and wish for anything else in the world.
