I think the NBA needs to clean that up. There really is a fake-ish circus atmosphere around some of the stuff that goes on. The changed rules late in the game that allow you to inbound in your own court is another gimmick-y rule imo. When people argue with me about the NBA being unwatchable to them for this kind of stuff I really can't say anything.

The key is 'completion of the dribble'. Brewer obviously toes the line with how his hand half-cradles the ball, but you can see the argument that he doesn't terminate the dribble until both hands get to the ball, in which case he takes...one step. It makes little difference there since he's going for an uncontested dunk 3 steps ahead of the closest player.

All of which is to say, basketball is a silly sport.
