Granted, I'm leaving my job this week (for a new job), but I had reached the point where people had stopped inviting me to those bull [expletive] meetings. I had found the cheat code in which people realized I was 1,000 times more valuable in my office, doing work, than I was sitting in some [expletive] conference room listening to people talk about work that may or may not ever happen. Or worse yet, sitting in a conference room correcting idiots who had the wrong ideas about what it would take to complete a project that may or may not ever happen.

The 9, 10 and 2 are all normal for Wed. The 11:30 and 12:30 is special - some ass holes from some lab out in Seattle want to see how we do stuff. [expletive] them is my kind of thinking on this. If there is no pizza at 12:30 I'm out of there.

What pisses me off is lunch is when I catch up on my baseball reading, which I might still be able to do if I can find a proper corner.

The 12:30 meeting went long, yipee. They did have pizza though so I stayed.

What a waste of a day. But I do not care since they will still pay me.

This was my day:
8:30 - got into office, read Baseball America and ESPN.
9:00 - 9:45 - Meeting 1.
9:45 - 10:00 - Check GRB
10:00 - 11:05 - Meeting 2.
11:05 - 11:30 - BA, ESPN, GRB, MLB.COM, Bill James
11:30 - 12:30 - Meeting 3
12:30 - 1:45 - Meeting 4 (pizza)
1:45 - 2:00 - Check Cardinal score, GRB, MLB.COM
2:00 - 3:45 - Meeting 5 with the last 30 minutes holed up in a corner reading more baseball stuff.
3:45 - 5:30 - Pretend to be doing work but reading more baseball stuff. Maybe some stupid animal tricks on youtube. Wikipedia surfing etc...

[expletive] meetings.

There is also a webinar I signed up for at noon on my calendar, which I won't be making. That's ridiculous. 12:30 supposedly has pizza coming, and it [expletive] better or I'm not staying.
Looks like you're free from 1:30-2:00. Let's block off that time to update project status so we can socialize the status report at 3:30... did you get the webex for the 3:30 with the new stakeholders.

Sorry can't. I have to take my six sigma blue belt certification test.

My weekly schedule has become so full of meetings that I've stopped even looking for gaps between meetings, and I consider it a win when I only have one meeting scheduled at a given time.

The 30 minute and hour gaps between meetings are almost worse than the meetings themselves. As soon as I make it back to my office, the vultures begin hovering one by one. "Hey do you have a few minutes?" "Oh good, you're back. What do you think about..." "Hey I just got a call from..."

My daily schedule looks something like this:

6:00-6:30 - Watch some TV while reviewing emails received overnight
6:30-7:00 - Get ready and head to the office
7:00-7:10 - Best part of the day--grab coffee
7:10-8:00 - Try to get something done before everyone arrives
8:00-11:30 - Meetings, meetings, meetings, and when not in a meeting get badgered non-stop
11:30-12:00 - Try to get something done after everyone else has headed to lunch
12:00-12:30 - Try to eat lunch, on days when I don't have lunch meetings planned (which happens about every other day)
12:30-5:00 - Meetings, meetings, meetings....
5:00-5:15 - Solve everyone's last-minute problems for the day
5:15 - Manager drops by, "Executive X wants to get up to speed on Issue Y. Can you put some bullets together and send to me?"
5:15-6:00 - Try to catch up on the emails that piled up over the day
6:00-6:30 - Put together those bullets
6:30 - "Oh, you're still here? Do you have a few minutes? I was thinking about...."
6:55 - Rush out of the building before they lock the door in my lobby at 7:00, forcing me to walk about 17 miles through the complex to exit out of the main lobby

I wish I were joking. My days suck unless I'm travelling, when I can actually look forward to having some peace and quiet on the plane and in hotel rooms to get some actual work done.
