Re: St. Louis Rams 2010 Season Thread
Anybody have a listing of other draft picks Rams have besides 1st? They need more bodies - if they could trade down for more picks in rounds 1-3 then that may behoove them.
EDIT -I looked it up -Rams have one pick in each round pretty much in the middle of each round. And LOL Patriots once again raking in 6 picks in the first 3 rounds - including the 17th 32nd and 33rd picks.
WR is a high-risk boom/bust position to draft. WR don't get the every-play action as other positions. They can use that 14th pick for a WR and end up with another Donnie Avery Mardy Gilyard (or worse). But I still believe that is their top draft priority -getting a playmaker with speed -even if that guy is a RB they can split out.
Draft priority:
playmaking WR
OLB/DE
Guard
RB
Safety
cornerback
WR

1. AJ Green.*
2. Julio Jones.*
3. Michael Floyd.*
4. Jonathan Baldwin.*
5. Leonard Hankerson.
*underclassman.
This will be, without question, the deepest WR class in many years. Each has #1 potential.
Bradford throws the ball like a great liquid whip.

Re: St. Louis Rams 2010 Season Thread
Jim Thomas inspired comments about Seattle game:
Looking at the bright side:
At least S Jackson will be healthy and well-rested for the pro bowl.
At least the Rams had WR that could go deep (cut by Rams - now plays for Seattle -Ruvell Martin)
Also Rams beat writer Jim Thomas doesn't anticipate coaching changes in staff (hint Shurmer) coming - not Spagnuolo's style. If a coordinator change occurs, it will be by insistence of Kroenke.

Neither Avery nor Clayton is all that considerable a talent. Avery has never shown anything, and Clayton only looked like a revelation because who else was Bradford going to throw to? The only time I got to see Clayton this year, he was about as proficient at running routes as Alexander was at catching the ball last night.Popeye_Card wrote:I'm unsure about a WR pick though, because you have considerable talent coming off injury (Avery, Clayton) and another guy that should be progressing (Alexander). My thought is that LB's don't usually go in the top 10, and you can get a pretty great playmaker for an OLB in the mid-1st.

Last night was the first time I watched the Rams for any significant stretch. Whatever offensive scheme the Rams were running, the Seahawks had it nailed. It would help if the Rams had receivers who were a threat downfield and could gain some separation.

That's pretty much how I view their needs. I'd love it if they got a TE opposite of Michael H.(Fells and I think Bajema are both FAs). As for guard, I think drafting one and signing another would be alright. Also, they don't have a pick in every roung. They don't have a pick in the 6th. They traded that to Baltimore for Clayton, who came back with a 7th rounder.Freed Roger wrote:Anybody have a listing of other draft picks Rams have besides 1st? Clayborn would be neat for me - my niece went to HS with him and they are friends. She's been up to Iowa City a bunch and gets great seats and he got her tix to the Orange Bowl where he was MVP. I think they're just friends, but I told her she should marry him so I can become his agent, or at least his investment advisor.cardslesson101 wrote:I think Clayborn's a Top 10 NFL Pick, IMO. But if he's there at 15 and from a PR perspective(he's from Webster Groves), he would be a good fit. I've seen mocks where Clayborn has been at 4 and where Quinn is at 12. Looking at walterfootball.com mock, they have Clayborn going 20th to Tampa(this wasn't updated after today's games, though).vinsanity wrote:Admittedly, I don't know much bout the draft.cardslesson101 wrote:There's 1 DE that I think can fall that far, Quinn out of UNC. If he's not there, the pick should be a WR or LB.
But he's ranked 6th overall, Clayburn from Iowa is 9th overall. What makes you think Quinn would fall 10 spots?

pebbles, I think Avery is a good speed guy to stretch the field, and it is certainly worth seeing what he looks like trying to catch passes from Bradford rather than Bulger, Boller, or Null.
Clayton was looking pretty good for a secondary receiver before he was injured. Was working very well with Bradford.
You stick those two with Amandola and Alexander, with Robinson, etc. shifted to backup roles--you have something to work with. Not outstanding, but very solid. Solid enough that if there's a better playmaker at a position where you are a little weaker, I'd definately go that route. RB is a pretty big concern--if Jackson goes down or trails off due to age/workload, what is the backup plan?

If Robinson is back next year, I won't be very happy. I want to see him and Gibson gone, with the WRs looking like this(in no order):Popeye_Card wrote:pebbles, I think Avery is a good speed guy to stretch the field, and it is certainly worth seeing what he looks like trying to catch passes from Bradford rather than Bulger, Boller, or Null.

Avery
Amendola
Alexander
Clayton
Gilyard
Draft Pick
I know some people might ask why I want Gilyard back when he hardly played. Here's my answer, he wasn't given a chance and cutting a 2nd year WR you picked in the 4th round wouldn't be a wise choice, IMO.
