Obviously, no one actually thought the thread had anything to do with the Cards faltering down the stretch.

Have you ever gone back to the same bar to watch a playoff game where you watched Game 7 vs. the Mets? Or wore the same shirt?

Same thing. Silly superstition. But part of the game and part of the fandom.
I ordered the same pizza and drank the same tequilla for every home game of the '06 playoffs. I played Dream Weaver on youtube before every Weaver start, and I still wear the same hat when I watch the games at home.
I played 'I love a Rainy night' and would drink Budweiser and Johnny Walker Red and smoke Marlboro Reds thinking that the Red Vibe was good luck. I don't smoke all that much, so the Reds usually gave me a buzz
I've done the pizza thing myself.

And the last time I wore the white cards jersey, red hat, for a playoff game. . this happened.

I wore the same white Cards home jersey for every game once I noticed they won almost every time I wore it. Oh, and I married the girl that I started dating during those playoffs.

Bring it back September 4. There will be 27 games (exactly 1/6 of the season) and 31 days left.

I don't see the difference, but fair enough. In my defense, you weren't getting some of the crazy PMs I was getting.

Man, I wish I had archived that thread.

Got a point. At this point we are calling out a magic number of 45 which is more than a quarter of the season. Way too early.

People were actually worried a magic number thread on a mid-sized message board was impacting the outcome of cards games. Eventually the pressure on poor dill became so great he asked me to lock it.

It was a GRB low point.
that's hilarious
less than a week ago we weren't even in first place.. now we have a magic number thread.. also hilarious
Agreed.
Well, it's not like we're a game up...we're now 4.5 with 3 in hand in the loss column

And we have the 3rd lowest E number in the majors, only behind the Dodgers (43) and the Yankees (43)

So, is it really all that ridiculous?

Yes, because baseball is a weird game..

Settle the issue this weekend against the Padres. Wainwright starts tomorrow. If he gets a win, keep the thread going. If he gets a loss, lock it until September. If he gets a no-decision, repeat with Pineiro Saturday, same results, deferring to Lohse Sunday if another ND. If Lohse NDs, lock the thread unless we swept.

Our magic number is 45 (or 44 now). That's a fact. Keep the thread, who cares. It effects nothing.

That's up to cards2468. It's his thread.

Personally, I think you guys are nuts.
It's your board, and I'm sure you were right. But what if there is a .000000000000001 chance that it really does make a difference? You ok with bringing down the Cardinals because of your confounded logic?
