I should be getting "The Express" in the mail today. Any reviews before I watch it?

Two of my best childhood friends, who i grew up with in West County, spent their entire 20s writing, directing, casting, fundraising, and generally fighting the world to get their movie made. It's called Humboldt County, and it had a limited release last fall from Magnolia Pictures, with some success. It just came out on video this month, and it'd mean a lot to me (and my buddies) if you checked it out, and if you liked it, left a decent review.

I'd say it's a comedic coming of age drama, not unlike Garden State. But instead of the Shins, it's pot that saves the protagonist.

As for my buddies, I hope to have a really exciting announcement about their next project soon, once that's official. But since I love the spoiler tag and hints...

Let me know what you guys think. It's not without its flaws (it reaches a bit too far for the melodramatic heartstrings at times), but I think it was a pretty well cast and beautifully shot first movie. And yeah, I'm biased, but I was still moved.

I saw Taken yesterday on video (it's crazy how soon the bootlegs come out). Liam Neeson was good as a guy who kills lots of people but WTF on the French with no subtitles then having a French bureaucrat speak English with an American accent then having Neeson pass himself off as the same w/o at least copping an accent française to the Eastern European baddies. Interestingly, co written by a Frenchie- Besson- the film seems somewhat anti French and pro torture.
Ultimately you end up with a standard Hollywood thriller/action flick.

I saw this months ago I think. It's possible that these leaks aren't the finished product and stuff like subtitles doesn't get added in until later.

Had the same thoughts on the movie. It was pretty good -- seems like it had the potential to be really good, but it looked, I dunno, cheap for a good part of it.

That makes sense. No subtitles I can understand- well, when it's French- but the part where French bureaucrat Patrice St Clair spoke with a midwestern accent was just weird.
