I'm a fan of plain ol' Sam Adams. That would probably get snubbed by a lot of snobs too.

Honestly, a lot of microbrews try too hard for my tastes. Trying to come up with some funky new flavor or trying to push the boundaries.
Exactly why I am exiting the "experimental" stage of my life and entering the "No surprises" phase. I have about 20 that I like alot, that provide alot of variety, and see no reason to try the Killer Joe's Bock Blueberry Fall Harvest Moon Full Pale Ale Pumpkin Spice Nano-brew.

It's just getting stupid I think.

Me too on the Sam Adams. A lot of the bars around here, it's my only chance of tasting a decent beer. Still can't believe it's a lager.

Agree to some extent on the micros but we are in a pretty great time, beerwise, with all of the choices we have here in America (sounds way too patriotic). Twenty years ago when I first tasted a Bass and realized that beer could be something other than Bud, Busch or Miller, it was difficult to find many interesting domestic brews.

Your Honor, I present into evidence:

The O'Fallon Brewery isn't bad, but this thing is a real hunk of [expletive].

Some of these fruit beers and lambics might seem like ridiculous experiments but they're not necessarily an invention of American micros. They've been brewed in Belgium and elsewhere since the 1600s. It's good to have variety. There are enough ridiculously horrible beers that thrive because of marketing or labels, let the crazy micros do whatever they want.

I think Leinenkugel might be one of the most egregious offenders here, at least when it comes to fruit beers.

Dogfish Head does some pretty wild stuff, but it usually works quite well.

Heh. I'm always going to sample around, but eventually will get more like you with a solid base of 15 or so. Currently I buy a six pack of beer I know I'll like, and another six of beer I think I'll like. Only time I experiment with a weird beer is if its from a brewer that I trust.

I continue my semi-formal boycott of ABInbev products. [expletive] em.

I like to "build my own" 6-packs when I'm in the mood to try new brews. I don't want to invest in a whole sixer of a particular beer until I try one.

A couple of summers ago I was building a 3 rail fence, one day it was 90 degrees and that damn post hole digger was throwing heat up in my face to make it feel like 190. After an afternoon of that I was literally covered in mud I was sweating so bad. Didn't even clean up, went into town and went into a convenience store and bought a 12 pack of Leiny Summer Shandy ... it just looked refreshing. I didn't realize it was lemonade flavored beer. 30 minute roundtrip to the store, so I was ticked ... but I made another trip and bought something.

Don't ever buy Leiny Summer Shandy.

As far as that chocolate cherry stuff that is just stupid. I just can't imagine what that tastes like.

I got wasted on hard lemonade once in highschool, which provided me with a nice manly aversion to all that stuff.

There was this girl I used to work with who drank shandies. Her preference was newcastle and sprite. Every time she ordered that I took it as a personal affront.

I was going to suggest the same, if the place will let you do it. Great way to test them out without the $6-$24 or more investment.
