Former Cardinals Watch

Hudson beginning the Rockies Arenado revenge tour.

I will pray for the defense during Hudson's starts at Coors. I wish him luck. Always seemed like a good dude and provided decent depth for a few years.

Oscar Mercado picked up by the Padres on a minor-league contract. This hot stove action is something else!

Mercado working hard for that ten years.

White Sox signed RHP Jake Woodford to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Woodford will presumably have a shot at making Chicago’s season-opening pitching staff as a versatile swingman after posting a respectable 4.29 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 119/63 K/BB ratio across 184 2/3 innings (80 appearances, 18 starts) over the last four years for the Cardinals. The 27-year-old former first-round pick, who was non-tendered earlier this offseason by St. Louis, represents a low-risk lottery ticket for the White Sox.

Drew VerHagen has signed with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
It’s a return to Japan for VeHagen, who spent two seasons overseas pitching for the Fighters from 2020-2021, before spending the last two years wirh the Cardinals. The 33-year-old righty made a career-high 60 relief appearances this past season for St. Louis, finishing with a serviceable 3.98 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 60/26 K/BB ratio across 61 innings of work.

I was never excited to see DVH enter a game but I'm surprised his best option was returning to Japan.

Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports the White Sox are signing free agent right-hander John Brebbia to a one-year contract.
Brebbia heads to Chicago after serving as a versatile workhorse for the Giants where he made 134 appearances (21 starts) over the last three years. The 33-year-old righty was limited to just 40 appearances last year due to a right lat strain that sidelined him for two months. He possesses the flexibility to pitch in high-leverage spots or even function as an opener, if needed.

Glad Brebbia is still finding work.
