Well, my Broncos traded up to draft Shane Ray. What can you guys tell me? I'm a little concerned about his off the field behavior. Should I be?

You should not. Shane Ray tumbling to the bottom of the first round while Jameis Winston goes #1 with a bullet is the most NFL thing. He is very good.

RE Winston, I just saw the ND game where his team was beat, and the Oregon game where he almost had a complete meltdown/probably should have benched. With that little I saw, I can't help but wonder what the [expletive] Tampa Bay is thinking?

RE: off field problems. We don't know these kids. I was a broke LMOC with a good family/morals and was no choir boy at that age. Hard to imagine anyone being a choir boy as millionaire college BMOC. NFL teams are investing a lot of cash in them, so I suspect they do their homework.


A part of me wonders if having a rap sheet -albeit a little one, makes a player more attractive to the NFL. NFL likes bad boys they feel like they are getting a bargain. Shane Ray -Denver probably thinks his marijuana and speeding thing just gives them leverage. And marijuana-Colorado ...pffft.

Still, that Winston pick is a head scratcher.

To clarify, I wasn't talking as much about football ability(I'm a bit bearish on Winston as an NFL prospect but I'm no scout), but more on the off field stuff. Winston probably should have been charged with rape, then followed it up with less severe but similarly stupid(stealing crab legs) and unaware(screaming profanity in a dining hall) goofs. Ray was pulled over this week with an ounce of weed and may have failed a drug test a few years back. The fact that Winston's mistakes didn't hurt him the least while Ray's cost him a bunch of money is classic risk minimization from the NFL. Teams playing not to lose/not get fired.

i WOULD consider the yelling thing way worse than the crab legs thing. I honestly believe him when he said he didn't think he had to pay because the guy at the store told him that. 100% believable. Deciding to yell FHRITP in a crowded place, when you're the most recognizable guy in town, when you have a lot of other ? marks surrounding your character.....yeah, that is pretty stupid.

i never knew/read what he yelled out loud, 'cause it was always just called an obscenity, but based on that acronym, i think i got it hah.

Is he effective against the run?

It's certainly not his calling card. I have zero clue if he'll be able to be an ever down guy in the NFL.

Of the Mizzou ends Ray was the most well-rounded, and I imagine that he wouldn't have a problem with being capable of stopping the run as a 3-4 OLB. He's definitely a pass rusher more than a run-stopper or line-clogger by trade though.

Been watching some tape of Ray this morning. Rarely seen a defensive player that seems to enjoy playing football more than this guy. Super high motor, and probably the quickest first step in the draft......... possibly the best pass rusher in the draft.

I'm pretty stoked that Denver was able to get him at 23. The video I've watched is about to turn me into a Mizzou fan!
