Has Mo been around long enough to have an "MO"?

I mean, the wheeling and dealing that they did at the trade deadline in 2009 wasn't exactly expected either
Well, Mo doesn't have an MO, but the FO does. And, trades in the middle of the season to bolster a contender aren't necessarily uncommon.

I remember back in June there was a thread where we were talking about if this team could be a WS contender with one more trade. I argued the answer was yes with the addition of Holliday in the middle of the lineup. The FO obviously felt the same way and pulled the trigger. Rolen, Walker, Edmonds, Mulder etc were all via trades. So, though they were quiet in 07 and 08 at the deadline, it appears they felt they had a contender in 09 and pushed ahead....that is not uncommon.

I think that the important thing to remember is that, while it may seem like it, Boras does not always get what he wants.

With Beltran, he was looking for a 10-year, $200 million contract. He got 7 years, $119 million.

Or how about last offseason? Remember what he was doing with Manny Ramirez? I don't remember what ridiculous terms he was using to describe Manny, but he was looking at a contract anywhere from 4-5 years to upwards of $100 million. He and Manny settled for 2 years, $45 million (a deal that they were offering months and months before there).

It wouldn't surprise me to see Holliday's contract fall far, far short of what Tiexiera got, despite Scott Boras' insistence. Maybe that's the general consensus though.

I would think GM's are getting fed up with him. It's like he's reading it out of a sports agent for dummies book.

If that's all you have to do, I want that book.

I think the funniest recent example of this is Strasburg.

I'll take issue with this. I would put Boras as an agent up against any other agent in any sport. I can't think of any agent who has been more successful than him or gets more big name clients.... And really, that's his goal. His goal isn't to be a nice guy or to say good things in the media or to do anything but represent his client and his client's interests over any other single thing.

You can say that all Boras cares about is money but, honestly, I can't think of a single player that has ever said "the Yankees offered me a ton of money and Boras made me go to NY even though all I really wanted was to go play in Pittsburgh."

I would also suggest that for every Teixera or whoever there are an equal number of Kyle Lohse's or Ankiel's who wanted to go (or stay) somewhere and Boras got it done and got it done well.

If GM's complain about him or are getting sick of him it's only because he's done his job well and represented his clients well rather than caving to the interests of the organization and their negotiators.

I think you read too much into my post. I agree with you. I'm not saying Boras doesn't do his job well, and I don't expect him to be nice. I just noticed in his recent comments (particularly referring to the Cardinal's lack of spending) his comments were very obvious in his attempt to get fans to question ownership (eventually leading to them spending more and giving his clients lucrative deals). It was just a turn off to me, kind of came off as arrogant.

EDIT- So basically on that first post those were two separate ideas but I was late for work and rushed the post!

That's it for me, too. Boras could still do an excellent job minus the pathetic attempts to manipulate the public. His implication that our attendance figures mean we should give Holliday a Teixeira-esque contract and his comments about Damon make him look like an ignorant ass.

That's worth a lot of money. That's near Hall of Fame caliber production.
