Giants and RHP John Brebbia avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $837,500 contract.

The 31-year-old Brebbia struggled in his return from Tommy John surgery this year, posting a 5.89 ERA over 18 relief appearances. However, the Giants are willing to give him another shot to get back on track.

For once, I'm pleasantly surprised by how young someone is. I had forgotten how young Wacha was when he was with the Cards.

Remembirds didn’t mention that this is the 11th anniversary of the Ryan Theriot trade.

11 years ago today, Ryan Theriot signed a free-agent contract with the Cardinals and immediately angered his former teammates in Chicago:

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported Friday that the Brewers considered trading Jackie Bradley Jr. to the Blue Jays for Randal Grichuk.

Rosenthal notes that the Brewers ultimately settled on shipping Bradley Jr., and a pair of infield prospects, to the Red Sox for corner outfielder Hunter Renfroe for increased offensive production and immediate financial flexibility. Grichuk won't become a free agent until 2024, but slashed an unremarkable .241/.281/.423 with 22 home runs across 545 plate appearances last season.

John Gant has signed with the Nippon-Ham Fighters of Nippon Professional Baseball, according to a report from Japan.

Gant worked around serious control issues to register a 3.42 ERA over his first 76 1/3 innings this past season with the Cardinals, but the wheels fell off following a July 30 deadline trade to the Twins. The 29-year-old right-hander will presumably get a chance to operate as a starter in NPB. He likely would have been stuck with a non-guaranteed minor league contract had he opted to wait through MLB's lockout.
