It sure sounds to me like Holliday picked the wrong year to be a FA, but I am no psychic. If the Yankees don't throw a Teixeira-esque contract at him, then he is not getting it from anyone else.

The Red Sox have about 40-50 Million to play with to try and bolster their team after seeing their rivals win the World Series. The Mets have a complete mess on the field and their cross-city rivals just won a World Series, and the Angels just cleared a bunch of money with Vlad coming off their books and have free agents in Lackey (who's spot they can fill internally) and Figgins so they need to find replacement production from. There are plenty of teams in the running for Holliday, in fact I think this is a great year for him to be a free agent. the only thing that would have made it better would be if the economy was flying high.

If he signs for anything less than 22 million a year, you're wrong.

Whatever he ultimately gets, whatever teams decide to offer him, and whatever random arbitrary dollar amount you want to make up (it has to be $22M!!!!), doesn't change the fact that it's a fertile market for him with lots of high-payroll suitors.

Yeah, I don't get this either. He's going to get paid large, probably overpaid. He's arguably the top hitter available. $18, $20, $22, it's a good year regardless.

I'm hoping the Red Sox re-sign Bay, taking them out of the running. I hope the Yankees keep Damon and Matsui. The Mets do seem like a distinct possibility, but I'm hoping they can't outbid us due to the fact that they have so much money tied up in half a dozen players--and they have several holes to fill.

In addition to NYY, BOS, NYM and LAA, I would expect ATL and SF to pursue Holliday.

I don't know if that's based on conversations he's had with him or just hopes and dreams. Either way, it's relatively meaningless but mildly newsworthy.
