Alcantara having a hell of a season.

The anti-Always Trade Prospects crowd who scoffed at the idea of trading someone like Winn and/or Thompson for Trea Turner/Max Scherzer (definitely better packages than LA had) need to also agree that Mo lost the Alcantara headlined package for Ozuna. Can't have it both ways!
he wasn't even the one we traded that I was mad about; it was Gallen

I didn't want to give up Alcantara but I also wasn't that mad about it. You have to trade good prospects to get good players. I always preferred Yelich to Ozuna; but that didn't happen. Water under the bridge.

Same. I do too.

Which is why I am mad we couldn't top LA's lousy package for Scherzer and Trea Turner. Mo wants to hold onto prospects when the narrative suits it. But will trade a stud for a short term player with a different narrative.

Turner at SS is exactly what this team needed in every way. Scherzer more so.

Right...I would have liked to see a deal made for those two as well.

Didn't Scherzer have a no-trade clause? Does anyone know if he would have waived it to come here?

I don't know if he said anything publicly but I can't imagine him saying no to pitch for the home team.

Why would he say no to his hometown? I mean of all places to be traded to, this had to be one of the OK'd spots.

I think it depends on the player. I thought I had heard that Odorizzi has no interest in playing for the Cardinals, because of all the distractions and pressure of playing so near his hometown/family/friends.

Scherzer has publicly stated wanting to play for the Cardinals. Even held out for Cardinals interest before signing with the Nationals.

I think Scherzer is the type who thrives on that kind of thing.
