Stavinoha should go down, so probably Barden.KyCardinalFan wrote:Was Duncan officially sent down before his trade?cards2468 wrote:Walters? Or was he sent down already?Freed Roger wrote:any guesses on who goes to Memphis?

I'm not optimistic unless he can leave town before the commish gives his approval. Who knows when that'll happen.
Definitely tomorrow, though.

That is extremely fortunate that he's on the east coast. My first thought was concern over any jet lag in getting to Philly.InvincibleCakeEater wrote:He should be in the lineup. He's only an hour away.KyCardinalFan wrote:The A's are in NY, so maybe?!Ace wrote:Any chance he plays tonight?

Re: UPDATE: Cards Acquire Holliday, page 26
Walters was sent down to make room for Lugo.
My guess, then, is that Stavinoha goes down to make room for Holliday.
Lineup now is likely:
1. Schumaker, 2b
2. Derosa, 3B or Rasmus, CF
3. Pujols, 1b
4. Holliday, lf
5. Ludwick, rf
6. Rasmus, CF or Derosa, 3b
7. Molina, c
8. pitcher or Ryan, ss
9. Ryan, ss or pitcher
Derosa and Rasmus will probably be flipped from 2nd to 6th depending on whether it's a lefty or righty starting against us.
Bench now consists of Ankiel, Thurston, Lugo, Barden, and Larue. That's a pretty nice bench.
However, Barden could go down if we go back to 13 pitchers, but once we get past August 3, we'll have nine off-days in the final nine weeks of the season and we won't need 13 pitchers any more (assuming we ever did).
We still need a fifth starter - we can't skip that spot in the rotation constantly - and management has pretty much run out of patience with him. Could Hawksworth get the callup? If he does, then also look for Barden to be sent down to make room for him, as Wellemeyer will *not* be released; he'll be sent back to the bullpen (like in the old days, when a guy didn't do well as a starter, they sent him to the bullpen).
Oh yeah - Glaus and Greene. Well, if Glaus comes back, Barden goes down then - although Glaus wouldn't be a regular; he doesn't have the arm strength to play 3B at present, and he's not going to be playing OF in the place of Holliday, Rasmus, and Ludwick - so he'll be strictly a bench player, and of course he can DH in the World Series. Khalil, OTOH, probably isn't coming back - if he does, and if Glaus is already on the roster, it gets tougher - they'd probably have to outright Thurston or Lugo and I'm not sure they'd want to do that. So it's entirely possible Greene won't come back until the roster expansion on September 1, although they'll have to finagle some way to keep him off the roster until then - probably put him back on the DL, and then do *another* rehab assignment, but even then I think Greene and/or his agent would have to agree to such chicanery.

I think it'll seem more real to me when he's in the lineup; right now he's pretty transparent to me.
Pretty cool that the FO managed to win themselves back a lot of the doubters.
CT is going nuts right now. The battle lines are already being drawn:
"Terrible trade, Beane fleeces Cards again!"
"Great trade, DeWitt and Mo for Life!"
