February was 13 ... THIRTEEN degrees below normal in Chicago. That's insane. Just got back from Springfield, cars in ditches and all sorts of nonsense. Plan was to go to my Dad's b-day party and spend the night and come back tomorrow, but with the forecast we just drove down early this morning and spent the afternoon with him and tried to outrun the snow.
humblebrag - I get such little opportunity to experience snow, so went out to a favorite local trail for a long run this AM before heading to work.
28 degrees -perfect not slushy, not muddy, and not icy. Unlike other times of year, I didn't have to contend with poison ivy, [expletive] stinging nettles, bugs, dangerous heat/humidity. Peaceful and change of pace from the brown. really enjoyable conditions.
Main thing to note - even though ground was buried under 5-6in of snow. I could sense Spring is in the air. Birds chirping away. Days getting noticeably longer. STL winter isn't anything like Chicago, or even Bowling Green.
Oh we have birds chirping now. I heard a bird whistle 'What the [expletive]" the other morning.
I could handle a St. Louis winter. My wife and I talk about eventually transplanting to Arizona or the like, at least for the winter, but given our midwest roots we have talked about St. Louis. Like you kind of said, winter without the edge.
It started raining last night and continued today, then it turned to sleet/ice about 4 pm and has continued that way up until now, and I think here in the next couple hours, we'll get some snow too. By tomorrow morning, I imagine the roads will be terrible. You can't even shovel it....it's just stuck to the driveway. F bomb.
It's so [expletive] cold here you just can't believe it. Tomorrow I'm going to the Bulls game, I park for free about 4 blocks from the arena and that is going to be one cold mother grabbin' walk to the arena and back after the game. They are saying here though we will be in the upper 40's AND sunshine by Tuesday. That shouldn't sound great, but it does. It feels like maybe this is the last winter surge.
Well after a week of [expletive] weather, which followed a month of cold ass [expletive] weather there is an end in sight. 40s for the weekend and the middle of next week 60s! Happy days are here again. Well after the [expletive] that is tomorrows high of 16 degrees.
