Relooking at the standings, despite both Calgary and the Blues winning their games, because Calgary won in OT yesterday, The Blues are now up one Regulation win, which helps a little as that is the first tie breaker. The Blues are up 3 in the ROW category, the second tiebreaker. With a 4 point lead but the Flames having 3 games in hand, Calgary would need to win two in regulation to tie us and take over the first tiebreaker. If they go 2-1-0 with one win in OT, we will tie the first tiebreaker and lead the second by one ROW. 1-0-2 Would also work for us.
We play MTL next and they are fighting for their playoff lives. (Though their last two were OTL) Calgary plays Seattle who is out of it and on a 2 game losing streak. Best reasonable hope is we win in regulation and Seattle drags it to OT before losing. Then Calgary faces Dallas, Edm, and Col to end the month, all of whom are playing well and are likely still striving for home ice advantage in the first round. We play Colorado and Nashville again.
I think, end of the month, with some luck, the Blues can control their own destiny. They need to take care of MTL and NSH in regulation, and hope Calgary gets no more than 4 points vs Seattle, Dallas, Edm and Col and gaining one less RW than us however that happens. Calgary going 1-1-2 and the Blues 2-1-0 with two RW would be fantastic.
That would leave us 4 points up with two games in hand and baaaaarely control over the tiebreakers heading into the last month.
Yeesh. Lots of ifs ands and buts. Hold on to those last ones.
