[expletive].
How fitting that their best shot at bowl eligibility would end up hinging on Corbin Berkstresser. And the o-line having a horrible game.
What really burns my ass about this whole [expletive] up season is that even with all of the bull [expletive], they're about five plays from being 8-3 right now.

Yeah, in my optimistic opinion, they're 8-3. Then there's the realist in me that says that Franklin is absolutely horrible, the lines suck and the overall gameplan blows. The realist in me is more correct than the optimist. [expletive] injuries. You can't lose to a team you just paid a million dollars to. Ever. To beat you. Fire pinkel. Bring in someone. Go forward. This year was a complete fail. Fail. Fail. Fail.

How the flying [expletive] do you lose to a team u paid $800000 to beat you and think the year was a success? And then keep the same guy in charge to go forward.
Pinkel can't beat a team with a line biggerthan his. It's why ou always beat him and its why his stupid [expletive] bull [expletive] offense doesn't work.
Jesus [expletive]. If they're an underdog going into fiu or wherever, maybe its time to change directions.

Re: The 2012 Mizzou Football Thread
You're ready to fire Pinkel for one bad season? We've gotten poor quarterback play and lost four starters from the offensive line for the year. Everything else about the program is still trending in the right direction. Easily could have beat Vandy, Syracuse and Florida. Better QB play and the Georgia and So Car games are much closer. The SEC has six teams ranked in the top 12 and Mizzou would be right behind that group with just a little bit more offense.
When healthy, Franklin is a legit weapon at QB. He's never been a great pure passer, but his dual threat ability makes him very productive. They rode him way too hard on the ground last year out of necessity (after losing a bunch of RBs for the year) and he got banged up. Then he needed surgery on his throwing shoulder in the offseason. Then he took a bunch of hits this year while the OL depth chart was imploding and picked up a couple more serious injuries. He's playing hurt right now. He's noticeably less mobile and isn't throwing it as well as usual either. Berkstresser has thrown 37% of the passes this year and he isn't good. Mauk is supposed to be good but they didn't want to burn his redshirt and he's probably not a big upgrade anyway given his inexperience. Even the best programs have years like this because of poor QB play. Mizzou had a pretty good run and was due for one. Hopefully Franklin is 100% healthy next year and Mauk is also ready to push him for playing time.
Syracuse isn't exactly terrible. They whipped Louisville last week pretty easily. But the SEC is so tough that you can't afford to lose any non conference games. It was a bad loss that summed up a bad season really well, but not a reason to dump a good coach.

Re: The 2012 Mizzou Football Thread
Pinkel fails to adapt.
He fails to adapt quarter to quarter, game to game, year to year.
How many QB run play calls have been used this year? 500? How many got more than 4 yards? 3?
They need to throw the ball down field. They need to run w/ the RB on real running plays.
If Franklin starts next year, it will be yet another struggle to approach .500. And, I can guarantee Pinkel starts Franklin. Pinkel doesn't adapt. Is afraid to change.

Wow, I don't remember typing this but well put.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:How the flying [expletive] do you lose to a team u paid $800000 to beat you and think the year was a success? And then keep the same guy in charge to go forward.

Pinkel's never going to be successful in the SEC. It's telling that Mizzou's signature win for this season was in Knoxville and TN, in turn fires their coach.
Pinkel took Mizzou from bad to decent with his version of the spread offense/system. That system isn't going to cut it. It didn't cut it against the big boys of the Big 12 and unless Pinkel starts to change and move forward, it's not going to cut it in the SEC.
And, I see no indication he's going to adapt. Maybe Mauk is Manziel v 2.0 and will pick the program up and put it onhis shoulders. He's going to have to as the system Pinkel relies on is useless without superman running it.
I was duped into believing that the smoke and mirrors would work, and it clearly hasn't. And, it definitely won't going further without some serious adjustments.

Not to discount everything else you said, but I addressed it already, I think.cardsfansince82 wrote:Even the best programs have years like this because of poor QB play. Syracuse may not be terrible, but they're by no means good. They were a .500 Big East team coming into this game with losses to Minnesota and Cincinnati. Meh. Mizzou shouldn't be having problems with teams like this.
And, I don't think you can blame the entire season on Franklin not being 100% healthy. Would they have an extra win or two? Sure. But, here's what it boils down to for me....I don't expect next years team on opening day to be any better than this years team on opening day. So, what exactly is there to be excited about? The hope that Mauk replaces Franklin and makes everything better. Pinkels' not a coach that's going to have good results. His system never really worked well against the Nebraska/Okalahom/Texas teams because they were outmanned at the lines. They're going to continue to be outmanned at the lines against almost every SEC defense. Even when Mizzou did stand up and manage to beat Oklahoma, remember the next week when they allowed 4,323,987 rushing yards to Nebraska. Their success will never be sustainable with their approach.
And losing to Syracuse is just the cherry on top of this [expletive] sundae

ouchMissouri: Implosion in Columbia results in the Missouri defense giving up 21 fourth quarter points to drop a tight one to a Syracuse team that is middling-at-best even by Big East standards. Suspension of star defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson played a large role in the fourth quarter collapse, as did the concussion suffered by quarterback James Franklin. In related news: This is what you call brand dilution, folks.
