I have an approximate 1.6 mile round trip commute each day. I could walk it, but then when would I drive my cars/bikes?

Being someone who looks at Bring A Trailer frequently I’m astounded by the price Porsches bring. Even used (albeit slightly for the most part) they will consistently sell above the original sales price (and in most cases WELL above the original sticker). The GT3’s basically increase by 50k + the moment you buy it (IF you got it for sticker price from the dealer, which I honestly have no idea if that’s common or not).

It’s insane really. And look, I understand they are fantastic cars (although I’ve never driven one), I might be more apt to buy a Merc AMG or something along those lines since they just don’t seem to hold value when used as well as the Porsches do. Granted if you’re only looking to own the Porsche for a few years, only drive it occasionally you likely wouldn’t even lose a cent on it. Granted, it’s all a pipe dream for me.

I've kicked around the idea of a 2012-2014 C63 AMG for a long time. They are the last of the NA V8s and that's something special. Kind of a muscle luxury car, but they are well used at this point. A lot I've seen were kind of rode hard and put away wet. I think that has a lot to do with it's rapid depreciation. People go "oh cool a V8 luxury car I can buy." but then maintenance comes around and it's super pricey. So I lot of it gets pushed to the next owner. I also worry that after the fun of the V8 sound wears off there isn't much of a driving experience there. Granted that sound would probably never get old.

Sorry, but this is the sweet cars thread where we are supposed to discuss the joy of driving/riding, and not the agony of the long commute.

(I’ve had the long commute, and it sucks. Sometimes the short commute also sucks when sometimes you just want to clear your head - especially on a motorcycle ride. Sometimes I take a long detour in the morning just to get some riding time in.)

I'll never give up driving until I physically can't. It's one of the great joys in life. Warm summer night with the windows down just cruising is one of my favorite things to do. A good backroad where you can open a car up a little is heaven. Not to even mention the days I spent racing as a youth. The racing was fun, but the bond with your team wrenching on each others cars, going out and settling rivalries. Nothing like a Summertime Friday night when anything is possible in your car.

And then when you are on that perfect road, in the perfect weather, and just the right song comes on... Is there anything better than that?

Kind of a funny scene this weekend. We are chilling at this bar in Nashville and a 911 Turbo pulls up and parks. It was beautiful. About five minutes later a guy in a McLaren 620LT pulls in. 911 guy got one upped. Then maybe 10 minutes after that a guy with a McLaren 700 pulls in. One upping the 620. My buddy goes "imagine rolling up in a 911 turbo and not having the coolest car at the bar.
