While I'm not going to argue, I thought Being There got great reviews. Anyway, I like them.stlouie_lipp wrote:yes, and "being there" in 1996...but they didn't reallt hit their "stride" until 1999 with summerteeth.stretch wrote:AM came out in 1995. Argue/disagree all you want, you won't hurt my feelings. The awsome thing about this forum (because of the users and mods) is that we won't get into name-calling or a flame war about it.stretch wrote:While I'm not going to argue, I thought Being There got great reviews. You know how they had to get rid of the old music thread because of too many posts?
I was thinking that maybe just editing your post with new music you are listening too would mean that we could keep the thread for a longer amount of time.
I am not being nit picky, I just like going back thru the thread and if people put each song they listen to in a new thread, minutes after the last song then the thread will last much shorter...meaning we won't get to see all the music as long.
just a thought.

I feel like I'm back in grade school getting scolded by Sister Irene.

Those are the sorts of people I was referring to who I do like a lot.Radbird wrote:I think you're selling your generation a little short. There are some very talented young artists out there today. I think artists like Jason Mraz, Howie Day, Damien Rice, Jonny Lang, Joss Stone, Jack Johnson, KT Tunstall, Donovan Frankenreiter - to name just a few - are enormously gifted. Also groups like The Fray, Death Cab, Luce, Aqualung, Snow Patrol, The Shins, Blue Merle. All good stuff - even to this old guy's ears.Elphie1 wrote:It sounds silly, but I take pride in the fact that I haven't fallen into the same trend a lot of people my age have.
I have sort of an ecclectic taste in music, but I like very few artists that are out there today. I love people like Norah Jones and OAR and The Fray, people with originality. But the rest of it is absolute crap to me. I feel embarassed that my generation of people have such garbage taste in music.
My favorites are the classics, though. Everyone from Elvis, to the Beatles, to Joni Mitchell and Linda Ronstadt. You know, people who had/have actual talent.![]()
But I do love the fact that you appreciate the classics. 8)
The "crap" I was referring to was stuff like any sort of hip-hop music, the Pussycat Dolls, Justin Timberlake, Panic at the Disco, etc. That kind of stuff is garbage to me.
I'm a sucker for originality when it comes to music. For instance, I couldn't tell you the difference between a Yellowcard song and an All American Rejects song. They sound exactly the same to me. Radiohead may not be to my particular taste, but at the very least they're an original group who sound completely different than everyone else.
BTW you're doing your daughter a favor, Rad. I got into classics because of my dad too.
