True and understood.
sure some people mimic pro-sports costumes during recreational versions of the sports, but none so flamboyantly and unneccessary as cycling

Generally recreational runners don't wear Bill Clinton style jogging shorts. Girls in the sand volley ball leauge by my house don't wear those thong things (dern!) Beer league softball players don't come in full MLB regalia (ok ok sadly many do but generally its a sign of their suckiness or steroid use).

And thank the dear lawd that most men don't wear speedos to the neighborhood pool.

unless you are superserious competitive level cyclist then why bother with the suit? If you're biking for fun and excercise then won't a little wind drag help you get more excercise -and make derelict drivers less apt to run you off the road.
it is all about image and wanting to look like lance armstrong.

I have no problems with bikers...making sure that I safely pass them even in rough traffic wastes only 30 seconds maximum.

The average driving IQ with cellphones, texting, radio is considerably lower than a biker, which is why I hope most bikers follow the rule of the road so they don't get hurt...even though the car drivers should be the ones paying more attention to the same rules.

I couldn't agree more. In fact, this thread (along with an almost tragic encounter with a biker mentioned before) has got me thinking about overall road safety as of late. So much so, that just today I pulled over off the side of a two-lane highway to jot down some info as I was on the cell phone with my bank.

I think AD might have mentioned this some time ago but there is a theory that all the signs and rules and lanes and signals make us more dangerous drivers. A micro example would be that roundabout have far few motor vehicle collisions than intersections with the theory being they require a much more active- as in paying attention- type of driving. We have become trained to drive as if we are driving in some sort of unbreachable tube making us much more passive at driving than we should be.

Broadly true, but when I see cyclists wearing their iPods, I cringe.

Roundabouts are more efficient for both traffic as well as gas mileage.

I am definitely not a passive driver.

I'm talking passive vs active not passive vs aggressive. I know we have plenty of aggressive drivers.
