Let's get rid of all of these guys:

Preston Wilson (.182 .333 .227/.560)

Skip Schumaker (.176/.167/.235/.402)

David Eckstein (.245/.333/.265/.598)

Adam Kennedy (.212/.235/.303/.538)

Scott Rolen (.214/.267/.310/.577)

Albert Pujols (.160/.263/.380/.643)

Jim Edmonds (.216/.293/.243/.536)

Ideally, you would replace Eckstein. Finding a huge upgrade is easier said than done.

Miles can't play SS. He can stand where a real SS is supposed to stand.

Up until '05, his odd-years were the good ones (and even in '05 his stats were 21, 54, .271 in 2/3 a season).

My bad. In my defense, I did go to his stat page to double check, but must have somehow shifted my reading of it. Guess I'm the "moran" on this one.

But he did play in only 88 games last season, and 93 the year before that. And he's 39 years old. To me, at this point Reggie (who I do love) screams bench-player, not solution to the offense. But that's IMO.

The problem with one and two is that there are plenty of fringy middle infielders that can be had over Miles. I won't disagree that he's been decent coming off the bench though.

We have plenty of backup outfielders on the ML roster but only one player to back up Eckstein & Kennedy.

Wilson has 13 strikeouts in 35 AB. Miles is outslugging him .400 to .286. Miles' OBP is .409 compared to Wilson's .222. Miles' OPS is .809 compared to Wilson's .508.

Miles would come in handy during a hostage crisis.

But no backup outfielders who have ever hit more than 15 home runs in a season. And yeah, Miles is outperforming Wilson NOW but I doubt that will be the case by the middle of next month.

But I agree one number three.
