They took his level in the field, not at the station. We have no idea where he was coming from, only that he was a mile from home and 15 from the stadium. You know what happens when you assume...

Do people really blow more at the station than the field? I hadn't heard that. Do you know why that is the case?haltz wrote:Depends on when he had his last drink, there is a reason that people blow higher in the station than immediately in the field. Or, I should say, there is a reason that they do it that way.

As a lawyer, he really should know the two basic rules:
1. Don't drink and drive.
2. If you do, and get caught, don't take the field sobriety test. Don't blow in a brethalyzer. Sure you're going to jail. But you were going there anyway. Now they can't convict you.
The real problem, of course, is #1. That's what makes me lose respect for him. I doubt he'll be fired or retire, but this is a source of shame and disappointment.

Banners flying over Spring Training
Animal shelter and family in California
DUI and forthcoming media, fan, and faction criticism
...yeah, I say there's a good chance he hangs it up.
Although, he may stay...his transformation to Whitey is almost complete:
Weird hair....check
Won a World Series....check
Drinks alcohol....check
Now if we can get him to start hunting the animals instead of saving them...the hoosiers around here may start to love him.
Sad really, he's really given us some of the best baseball in years. I don't want to see him go, but I think there is a good chance that he might.
Just please don't say you are going into rehab...it's like the new hotness for players / celebs.

Sad news. I hope he can turn this into a positive. I don't anticipate he will retire or be fired, but I hope he does come clean about it, acknowledge that he screwed up and takes it as an opportunity to speak up about the problem. I'm not speaking for anyone on this board, but I've been to the games enough times to know that drink-driving after games is extremely widespread.
As far as mugshots go, though, his is not too bad. I've seen him look worse in shots in the dugout.

I looked over on CT, saw a thread about it, and assumed immediately that someone was trolling and that it wasn't true; I couldn't believe it.
Maybe I'm overreacting, but I feel like this is going to follow him for the rest of his baseball career, which is a shame. Yes, he screwed up big time, but now any time he makes a bad baseball decision, the team gets in a slump, he has a problem with a player, ANYTHING...and that's going to be the first thing in people's minds and media reporter's questions. Despite the never-ending fodder this gives to internet trolls, it's going to be a constant in everyone's minds now, justified or not. It kind of casts a pall over the coming season, in a way. I don't see how this can't be a distraction at this point, but at least it happened now and not as the season was starting.
You know that Sidney Ponson is somewhere laughing about this really hard(or at least he will when he wakes up this morning).
I'd be shocked if he'd be fired or retire over it right now. If it spills over into the regular season and the team starts out slow, then maybe.

Like I said, it depends. There is a peak BAC and it is definitely not immediately after you've consumed your last drink. Also, recent consumption can throw off breathalizers, especially the crappy portable ones. Your body can only "process" so much alcohol at once, something like a drink (1 wine, 1 beer, 1 shot) in an hour. This is the rate that you get sober, and also, drinks can get "backed up" in your system. E.g., if you take a couple of shots or drink a couple of beers in the span of, let's say, a half an hour, then you will blow your highest in an hour (or something like that).BenNX74205 wrote:Do people really blow more at the station than the field? Oh, and whatever they reported is what he blew at the station. It's the only one that counts I believe.
As an aside, the BTF thread that just went up should be amusing.
