I think that's spot-on and it's why I think it's a really mediocre show that gets away with a LOT just because it has zombies. It's a very enjoyable mediocre show and I like watching it... but I don't think particularly highly of the production.
Yeah, that is pretty much my feeling too. I like it, and am entertained by it, but I won't argue w/ anyone that doesn't nor will I trumpet it as one of the great shows on TV. Still, I dig it.
Game of Thrones-
Someone remind me(in the show only), what happened to the Hound after Blackwater? He tried to rescue Sansa right? So, he's heading where? And where is the Mountain?

I like the casting of the actor as Mance Rayder. And the Giant was sweet. And the Warlock's are back, huh? Knew Dany couldn't kill them that easily.
For the show, you don't know what's happened to the Hound after Blackwater. After a season's worth of watching Joffrey abuse Sansa, his fear of fire (whaddup face scars from your brother holding your head into a fireplace because you touched his toy) was the last straw, he cracks and heads out.
The last we saw of the Mountain, he was at Harrenhal (where Arya was) before Tywin sent him out to kill everyone in every town around the castle because of Jaqen's work.
It was implied through season 2 with the red comet, but the dragons are back, the warlocks are back, and the white walkers are back. Whatever power that laid dormant for the thousand years after the wall was put up has started to show up again.
That is perfect. I still can't believe they watched that, and then, yup, let's get in the car and go off w/ him!
MAYBE THEY ARE BAD GUYS TOO. Maybe they want to align themselves with the person they perceive as powerful.
Or maybe they were just stunned.
If they were anywhere close to the bad guy the Govenor was, they would have killed him. If they were good guys they would have killed him. But like Ghostrunner noted above, they put the charcters above the plot. They needed these 3 around next season, or so they thought.
Have never watched "Girls" because I always got the impression from the promos that doing so might cause me to grow a vagina, but this article on why the characters on "Girls" are so irritating is still interesting.
My cable company had free HBO last weekend, so I recorded several episodes (the end of season 2) of Game of Thrones to see if I'd like the show. Didn't really understand what was going on. I'm thinking that this is not the kind of show where you can get away with dropping in in the middle.

Nope, entirely a start from the beginning type of show. S2E9 might be the only watchable one-off episodes if only for the theatrics of a battle, but you would be missing all of the nuance from who is doing what and why that matters.
I would agree that "Game of Thrones" is something you basically have to catch from the beginning. That might be a fault of a too-faithful adaptation--every time I watch Bran I wonder why I'm supposed to care--but that show would be super-hard to pick up partway through.
