I would like a pretzel and baseball. I have a feeling I'm gonna get neither.

Bauer is also criticizing the restart plan:
Reds' Bauer: MLB's restart plan is 'laughable'

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Trevor Bauer labeled Major League Baseball's restart proposal as "laughable" on Wednesday.

Bauer, in fact, went into greater detail of what he found funny with agent Rachel Luba in a video published on YouTube. "The ask is basically take more risk by getting back sooner and take less pay than we've already agreed," Bauer said in the video. "We've already agreed to take ... a 50 percent pay cut and now they're asking us to take another pay cut.

I wonder if Snell and Bauer are the exception or the majority.

I'd pitch for him for a tenth of his salary for half a season! Of course I also only have 1% of his talent at most so it still wouldn't be a good deal for the team.
Considering he plays for the Rays, they may do it anyway just to save the $.

I can support the players not conceding any more money to the owners. I also don't love begrudging anyone their fear right now. But unless it's their old/compromised loved ones, this isn't a population that's risking their lives like Snell says (it's also a little clumsy to say you 'love baseball to death' in the same video game stream).

The owners are being really shortsighted. It's not a totally even comparison for a number of reasons, but NBA players are getting paid at 75% (per their CBA) and seem to be anxious to get back on the court (there will probably be some painful money arguments later though). And young people and the Chinese actually like that sport--and you can shoot hoops in quarantine. Maybe I'm Chicken Little-ing here. But this could be real bad for baseball (plus a lost season for youth).

Owners need to suck it up and get the players on the field.

When it comes down to choosing sides between the millionaires who will be the ones actually putting themselves and their families at risk under this plan (and yes, even some young, healthy people have been debilitated or killed by this disease) and the billionaires who will get to watch from their mansions, I know whose side I'm on when the owners say "sorry, I know we agreed to divide the pie this way a month ago, but we want a bigger slice now."

The owners being greedy a-holes doesn't preclude the players being knobs. For instance, guys will say "No, I gotta get my money. I'm not playing unless I get mine, OK?" and "I love baseball to death" in the same breath while thousands of people watch them play Dig Dug. If I could be anything right now a wealthy 20-something professional athlete with incredible access to medical care would be one worth considering. Perhaps Snell's comments included some further sense of perspective that I didn't hear.

They took their pay cuts (they shouldn't take any more). Hopefully they're just playing strong right now to be sure the conditions are as good as they can be and they go out to play, unless they don't want to (at an individual level). They need to have a season, even if it's a Steagles situation. (Obviously "need" is extreme hyperbole here.) Weighing the risk of these guys playing baseball against the good it could do for the kind of people no one wants to watch play Dig Dug who are facing much greater risk, and the future of their own occupation--I come out thinking they should do it.

according to the cdc website, there have been been 270 deaths due to covid in males ages 25-34.

Blake Snell is being a little dramatic.

I'm not necessarily a shut up and play guy, but idk. Settle down blake.

To be fair, he did always talk about the concern of contracting it and giving it to someone else (more at risk).

That's good to hear, really. I only heard the juiciest bits. But they did include "Bro, I'm risking my life!" among other gems. Going to buy eggs right now is probably riskier than whatever the MLB plan will be. And the level of risk for a person in their 20's who's paid to be physically fit... I don't know. Staphylococcus from the locker room is probably a greater threat to him.
