I find this whole thing incredibly odd. The injury wasn't remotely life-threatening. Not even career-threatening, apparently. Losing Ware doesn't impact Louisville's chances of winning the championship, hardly at all. I'm glad he's doing fine, but I'm a bit confused about all of the fuss.

Seems too early to say it's not career threatening. Even ignoring the rehabilitation an subsequent delays related to it, he personally has to wonder if he'll be 100 percent again. Recruiters, owners, coaches will wonder too. I have no idea what his pro/NBA prospects were, mind you.

Anyway, I'm with AW. It's not like they're wearing black armbands.

I think it's a bit much.

Heard the interview Ware did with Reece Davis. Sounds like a really sharp kid with great perspective on life.

Yeah, I'm not knocking the kid at all.

Injuries happen all the time in college sports. It just seems like this one is being more dramatized because the bone popped out of the skin. I'm all for the team supporting the kid, helping him recover in whatever way possible. But doing all of these things "in his honor" almost makes it seem like they're commercializing it.

College sports is all about mythologizing [expletive] that doesn't deserve it. Coaches, rivalries, tradition and even horrific injuries. It's all the rah rah nonsense that I can more easily avoid following pro sports.

I think I'm done with this soap box at least until football season but probably more likely until next March if someone wants to borrow it.

What's your soapbox. If it includes hating the NCAA, I can take over though likely not do as good of a job. However, I do love me some college football despite the NCAA.

Yeah, I'm pretty against the culture of college sports in general, but specifically, I get very preachy during March when conversations re: NBA vs NCAA hoops come up.

also, he's from atlanta so i think that might have something to do with...big deal and all.

Plus, his parents werent in the stands nor could they make it to the hospital because they couldn't afford it.

This Rutgers situation is really messed up. The AD knew about it and he tried to counsel the coach but it didn't work and now the video went viral and he had to fire the coach, Mike Rice. One of his assistant coaches just resigned also.

Okay, so when I said that it wasn't a big deal when it happened, I was called out, called a troll and even poked fun at in GDT's... a few days later and now it's an echo chamber of "it wasn't a big deal." Alrighty.

Now, hold on. When I reacted strongly to your couple posts, the night of or the next day, it was in reference to what I interpreted as your minority reaction that the injury wasn't that big of an injury compared to many other injuries. Yours was simply the only opinion I saw, up to that point, not saying it was one of the more shocking injuries caught on live TV (and HD super-slo-mo for that matter, Ughh). No big deal, message boards wouldn't exist if people didn't have strongly different opinions here and there.

The chatter now is that it shouldn't necessarily require patches or uniform changes. It was just a super, super gross injury that I felt inspired the team to completely dominating every minute of that game thereafter. I agree that it's not really a reason to do memmorative uniform changes.
