MIZZOU LOST ON PURPOSE TO SCREW THE BIG XII AND MAKE IT MORE UNSTABLE.MrCrowesGarden wrote:Alabama finished .0086 points ahead of OK State. Tim McKernan made the point that if mizzou beat asu, it might be the cowboys playing for the national championship.

Good article with Deaton and Alden about moving to the SEC and how it all happened and what they were thinking.

Deaton: We’d had a (Big 12) board meeting in which everyone was solid, ready to go. That occurred just prior to, I believe, the courting of the Pac-12 — say, a day before, or it could have been a few days before. So the courting of the Pac-12 caught us all by surprise. We knew Texas A&M was gone. I was chair at that time. We were all pulling together. We knew we had some top prospects to bring in to the Big 12. Then to suddenly wake up and hear that four of the institutions were looking at the Pac-12 was quite a surprise to us.
Nevertheless, my role, and I embraced it very heartily at that time, was to try to do everything possible to keep the league going forward. In fact, during that period, David Boren and I flew to Texas A&M, to College Station, to meet with (Texas A&M President) Bowen Loftin to try to talk him into — I believe that was the 28th of August, as I recall. … I was still very solid in thinking we can make this work out and we might even talk A&M into coming back. We knew we had some other prospects. Everything was still very gung-ho. …
But then to see the comments shortly after that (from Boren) that the options are all still open, the remaining five institutions at that time, if you think about it, that make up the Big 12, we were looking at ourselves at that time and saying, “Gosh, what would happen if that really should occur. Are there enough institutions to repopulate the Big 12?”

Re: Mizzou Football 2011
It looks like the opening SEC game in 2012 will be Mizzou playing host to Georgia. It's also looking like their rotating SEC West opponent for 2012 might not be Ole Miss, but rather.... Alabama. Poop.
I'd still rather be in the old Big XII (complete with Nebraska and Colorado), and I'd still rather be in the Big Ten. But I'm getting excited about seeing all of these SEC schools in Columbia, and Mizzou on the road for the first time playing the SEC.
Also, for no real reason at all, I think I'm going to start pulling for Georgia.

Re: Mizzou Football 2011
Great game. Franklin is really coming into his own. I heard on the radio Mizzou finished the season with 4 straight wins for the first time since 1965. Shows a lot of character to keep playing hard when they were 4-5. We ran the ball all day on a pretty talented defense and played some smothering run defense ourselves. Sounds kinda like an SEC team, eh? Maybe we can steal some recruits between now and signing day.
This story cracked me up
Georgia should be really, really good next year. Alabama is going to lose Richardson and a bunch of studs on defense. They're good enough to reload every year, but next year wouldn't be the worst time to play them. I'd love to get tickets to either of those games. Agreed on the old Big XII, but I wanted no part of the Big Ten. I'm really starting to warm up to the idea of the SEC. I've always wanted to go to some of those SEC stadiums just for the experience. Now that Mizzou is going to be joining the conference I might actually make it happen. Who knows? Maybe if Mizzou can play reasonably well the first couple years they can take that step forward to getting elite recruits and become a legit NC contender.JL21 wrote:It looks like the opening SEC game in 2012 will be Mizzou playing host to Georgia. http://espn.go.com/blog/big12/post/_/id ... are-bustedIt's been a rainy day down on the Bayou, but we've already had one mishap: The Independence Bowl trophy has been shattered by Truman the Tiger, Mizzou's mascot.
The rumors started earlier today when the Mizzou Alumni Twitter account posted a photo of all that was left by the broken piece of crystal.
"If you break it, you own it...right?" the account read after relaying the incident.
Harry Plumer of the Columbia Missourian dug to the bottom of the sordid incident.
"Confirmed that Truman broke the Independence Bowl Trophy. Tried to pick it up during a photo op, and it took a tumble. Was imported crystal," he wrote via Twitter. "Asked Truman if he broke the trophy. He nodded. Asked him what happened. Threw his paws in the air, then covered his eyes to mimic sobbing. ... Truman seemed as sorry as a college kid in a Tiger suit can seem."

SEC schedule released for 2012:
(I'm obviously worried about Alabama, but I'm assuming that's a loss, whereas SC, UGa, and Fla are all winnable)
I'm really excited about the SEC and all of that... but [expletive]. Alabama? [expletive]. At least it's at home... but, [expletive]. Also, Vandy and Kentucky at home should be automatic wins, but also boring-ass games. I want to see Florida or Tennessee or even South Carolina at Mizzou. And really, the two games I'm most worried about besides Georgia are Florida and South Carolina, so it sucks that they have to play both on the road.Missouri will open with a home game against Georgia on September 8th as its inaugural SEC tilt. Other conference teams coming to Columbia are Vanderbilt (October 6), Alabama (October 13) and Kentucky (October 27). Road trips will be to South Carolina (September 22), Florida (November 3), Tennessee (November 10) and Texas A&M (November 24) for a third year in a row.

Yeah that's actually a fairly winnable schedule.

I better see all of you here in Knoxville. Tailgating here is awesome before a home game. I think Mizzou fans will also love the setting.

Re: Mizzou Football 2011
It kind of sucks that FL, USC & GA aren't either all at home or all on the road. They flip home/road every year. It would have been nice if they had been able to stack the deck so to speak where all the upper tiered teams in the east were going to be home games every other year.JL21 wrote:SEC schedule released for 2012:

Other than that, yeah it sucks they get Alabama and aTm from the west....but not that bad. That will/should rotate. And it's not like next year was going to be NC team most likely. So, get the exposure and get it out of the way.
Vandy is a lot better team than people give them credit for. They gave FL everything they wanted in Gainesville last year and I'm not so sure they won't be better than FL this coming year. (THough I admittedly know little about Florida's program) Regardless, I don't think Vandy will be a boring ass game.
It's a touch schedule, but not any tougher than what they faced this year. There'll likely be 5 top 25 teams on it with only 1 of them being a top 5 team. What did they do this year? 6 against top 25 with one against a top 5 team?
