Meant to say above "can't remember anything being this good right out of the gate for a long time."

It handles the time period really well, similar to Mad Men. Doesn't make a big deal of events of the day, unless they're thematically or dramatically relevant. It captures the mood and the atmosphere really well, while not being too slavish to the details. There's still stuff from the 70's hanging around, the wife's not walking around in leg warmers and people aren't walking around with boom boxes on their shoulders.

The lead actor is great and Keri Russell is able to switch from cold to scary to super hot at the flip of a switch.

Yup. The highlight of the season so far was that vicious beatdown she delivered to her handler. "SHOW THEM YOUR FACE!".

Also, my sweet lord that chick that plays Nina is insanely sexy.

The period detail is kind of spotty but I'm just old enough to remember the Reagan assassination attempt (was a couple of months shy of turning 8) and they really did play that one damn clip on a loop all day.

A Dick Cheney documentary featuring interviews with the man himself airs on Showtime tomorrow night.

Evidently the black mass wherein he transfers his soul into a newborn baby happens later.

Enjoy! Felicity is a badass, the dude that I'd never heard of before is a tremendous actor, the dude from "The Truman Show" is just about the creepiest nominal good guy ever, and it has John-Boy Walton.

The Americans does a great job of taking a nuanced and honest approach to a time period instead of falling into a trap where they treat a decade as a caricature of itself. However, I wish it treated the spy game as more action-oriented and less of a tension-filled series of mundane events. I love it - just wish it was more shoot em up.

I dunno, there's been a decent amount of shoot-em-up, Felicity plugged a guy between the eyes in one episode. I think they're trying to make the show at least nominally realistic. They could go James Bond, and that could be a good show, but it would be a different show.
