I though it was lame, and a cop out. A pretty meh ending to a pretty good season.

OK, even though Deb showing up at the shipyards at all should have been avoided, to have her kill La Guerta and immediately break down in tears and run to her? Horribly conceived.
Should be interesting how La Guerta going "missing" will play out next season. Angel now on the scent?
[SHOW]
Did you see the directors comments ... that part where she ran to La Guerta was completely ad-lib'ed.

I thought it setup next year pretty well. It's going to be crazy. Deb went from being a good cop to an accomplice to a serial killer to a murderer in one season. Angel has been Dexters best friend and ally, but now he's a civilian and the women he still loves is dead. This will unravel. Dexter's code is gone, he's just a killer now. The love of his life is on the run.

It could go a million different directions.

They went with the worst possible ending that they filmed.

I think the original ending was Dexter killing La Guerta and then Doakes showing up as a new apparition, or he showed up alive and horribly scarred. The title, and scenes with Erik King (Doakes) just don't make any sense in the context of the storytelling. It looks like they just brought him back for a bunch of scenes, just to have a a bunch of scenes. At no point did those flashbacks do anything to advance the story, or give the viewers pertinent knowledge that we didn't already know.

The thing is, you add those scenes in there to create a buildup, to have a reason and later a payoff for newer viewers unfamiliar with the earlier seasons. Instead, they make no sense, and are a waste of time. Also, what is the reason now for the title? It doesn't make any sense.

I think there is an alternate ending that was left out at the last minute, and now the rest of the episode doesn't make any sense.

The thing is, you don't tease viewers for an epic finale, only to give them crap. It would be like if the producers for the next Star Trek movie were like "Kahn is back!" and plaster that all over posters in theaters, then it turns out he is only there in old Spock flashbacks for no payoff - not even a cliffhanger of finding the sleeper ship at the end of the movie.

It's bad storytelling and producing.
[SHOW]
No way. Any ending with Doakes alive would have been horrible. Or as an apparition, since there's already one too many. I didn't see the ads, and it played out fine to me. The flashbacks were there to show the point where Dexter originally f'd up and raised suspicion, setting all this in motion. Showtime likely decides how to promote the show rather than the show runners.

I thought Deb shooting La Guerta was perfect, because there's no getting away from Dexter at this point. It gives her a much more interesting story to play next year, and Dexter has already compromised on his code a few times. I actually loved the part where Deb ran to La Guerta and thought it made total sense given their history. She only shot her because she couldn't shoot Dexter.

I only hope they resist having Angel on Dexter and Deb's trail next year, as that would be the 4th or 5th cop to do so.
Non-spoiler wise I think it's the best season of the show except for maybe the first. Even that season more or less followed the formula they've used since then. This season stands out as something unique to me. Ray Stevenson was terrific and the episode where he and Dex talk at the gay bar was the best of the series and one of the better tv episodes I've seen all year. The Quinn storyline, as usual, was terrible.

I hope they don't go that route w/ Angel too, but I fear that's where it's headed...

Huell Howser dies. This means something to me and I guess the one other person on this board who lives in California.

"Downton Abbey" kind of came out on Sunday night as the show for the 1%. Oh no, we might have to sell our insanely huge castle and move into a slightly less magnificent house! Drama! I got a kick out of the scene where the dude who's serving a life sentence in prison gets upset by that.

Still entertaining, though.

Homeland won Best Drama, Best Actor, and Best Actress last night at the Golden Globes...

I watch yes. But I can name 10 shows I thought were twice as good as Homeland this last season.

My understanding is that the Golden Globes are voted on by a very small committee of sycophant critics who hang off of celebrity ball sacks.

In other words, I'm not sure there's any stock to be put into Golden Globe voting.

Rafi may very well be one of my top 5 most wretchedly hilarious favorite characters of all time. I wish he could somehow make a cameo appearance on Always Sunny. It would be stunning.
Just burned through all 3 seasons on Netflix. I love this show.

Archer - Season 4 starts tomorrow night.

Season 2 might be the best comedy season of any show I've seen.

I don't know, I've always thought their results were better than the Oscars or the Emmys. It's also just a better ceremony, better hosts. Looser too - the guests are sitting around drinking, rather than stuck in a seat for 3+ hours.
