How many more levels did the relationship need to "move up" before he makes any effort whatsoever to visit her in the hospital or I dunno GO TO HER FUNERAL. Why haven't we seen any phone records or anything else of substance?

You can tell your coworker's story as often as you want but the situations are not comparable. Your coworker probably did establish a deep emotional attachment because he had nothing else. Te'o had everything he wanted including other women by his own account. He's admitted to grossly embellishing or outright fabricating every single aspect of their relationship. He was probably hoaxed in the beginning but the hoax he pulled on the public was much bigger. This other person had no choice but to keep it going because Te'o made it a central part of his own story.

He has no obligation to show any phone records. He's not on trial.

If Te'o had everything that he wanted, then why did he fall for the hoax to begin with? My co-worker actually had several dates with "local" girls that he met online, but for some reason he fell for the one that he couldn't quite attain fully. I don't think it's that uncommon. Te'o was a college football player, but he's still human, and will have human tendencies.

Again (for about the 5th time), I don't doubt that he embellished the story for attention. People do all sorts of things for attention.

What if your coworker later admitted he passed up all sorts of opportunities to go see that person and almost everything he told you about her was stuff he himself fabricated? But he still took bereavement leave from work and hit everyone up for donations when she died. Would you still feel the same or perhaps realize you are dealing with a pathological liar?

Oh, I'm almost certain that my co-worker embellished quite a bit of what happened. But he's also a bucketful of naive, just like Te'o. He made all sorts of plans to go and see her, but she always made an excuse to cancel at the last minute (because "she" obviously didn't exist). I wouldn't be surprised if Te'o wanted to go and see this girl, and possibly even planned to. But obviously "Lennay" would have to find an excuse for him not to, because "she" didn't exist. We just don't know.

He never hit us up for donations, but "my co-worker's girl" actually got pretty sick once........ and he was kinda freaking out, and pretty vocal about it. Then "her" mother got in a car wreck (or something like that), and he freaked out about that, too.


All I'm saying is that people can be odd when it comes to these sorts of things. It's hard to fathom that we even live in a world where that's possible now, but we do.

And again, I'm not absolving Te'o. Much of what he did, he no doubt did for selfish reasons, mostly to get attention (I assume........ I obviously don't know). I'm not a Te'o fan, or a Notre Dame fan. I just don't find the whole thing all that far-fetched, or Te'o's reactions all that troubling. But that's just me........

Imo, the best case scenario for Te'o has shifted from being simply naive to being naive and/or dumb and, in addition, also embellishing the story.

He certainly isn't, but one would think he would, to prove that he was not part of the hoax. Of course, with most of the media being so strangely accepting of his new story, he doesn't really need to.

I don't think he's ever going to live this down. The story is just too bizarre and unique. I doubt it has much impact on his draft position though.
