Only they could make violating taboo look as bland and inane as an episode of "Good Luck Charlie."

I warned you guys. I almost didn't post it, but it summarizes the pure essence of this thread too well.

A children's book about the Titanic. No, really. So your nine-year-old can read about that time 1500 people drowned or froze to death.

I have this book

My parents got it for me when I was about 10 I think (at least that's how old I was when that book came out).

When I was little I was obsessed with the Titanic. The idea that there's an incredible structure that was a testament to engineering and ship building when it was built and now it's sitting somewhere out of human grasp just blew my mind.
A coworker's 7 year old son is obsessed with it too. He was following some sort of twitter reenactment religiously around the anniversary.

That wasn't for school, was it? 1984 is a pretty difficult read with probably far more depth than I understood it to have when I read it at age 17.
I definitely read that sometime in middle school for a class. I thought everyone did.

I read Animal Farm.

I loved the Book of Lists series and The People's Almanac series when I was in middle school. Plenty of twisted stuff in both.

Animal Farm was my favorite book for a while. Read it as a freshman in HS. 1984 I read as a senior, but my favorite book I read for school was A Clockwork Orange which I also read senior year. For me to say I like these books is a big deal, because I really hate reading.

Every 6th grade boy in my class chose a Stephen King book for our weekly "independent reading" time, specifically because of the graphic violence and sex contained within. Only a few of us went on to be serial killers, so it wasn't harmful or anything. I think our teachers really didn't know what was in those books.

On that note, how bad is the ending to IT? Basically 5 or 6 boys (maybe 10 or 11 years old?) have to gangbang a girl of roughly the same age in order to defeat the villain. And she actually tells them they have to do it, as I recall. Somehow they all just know this is necessary. Of course they skipped this in the miniseries.

I'll stick this here, since I don't see a Darwin Award thread:
