Someone spotted Paul Chryst at the airport.

Wisconsin is second only to the University of Texas in total athletics revenue. But it doesn't have an assistant coach ranked higher than No. 77 in the nation in annual salary and it doesn't rank any higher than 9 in the Big Ten in combined compensation for assistant coaches. That's a lot of money coming in, not a lot of money going out to one of the few places there isn't a spending cap. I can understand how this imbalance could create a negative perception in coaching circles.
You know who pays their assistants less than Wisconsin though? Oregon State. And you know who is following Andersen to Oregon State? A lot of his assistants from Wisconsin. So I don't really buy the idea that this is a part of the reason why GA left unless Oregon State has promised everyone huge raises and we haven't heard about it yet.
Furthermore, you know who else has strict academic standards? Oregon State. They abide by the exact same rules as Wisconsin. So I also don't buy this argument that GA was dissatisfied with the standards, unless Oregon State has promised to lower their standards and we haven't heard about it yet.
No matter how I slice it I think GA took a tougher assignment in a worse situation. And that's odd. I can't stop thinking there has to be something else. I don't even buy the BA is a bad boss story even though BB was run out of town before GA. Alvarez stood proudly behind Andersen and was happy to let him run his show. As far as anyone knew they got along great. And not liking your boss, even God Alvarez, doesn't sound like enough of a reason to downsize your opportunity from Wisconsin to Oregon State.
Maybe GA just wanted a situation with less pressure to win and a bit more scenery than the about eight months of winter Madison gets.

I think you hit the nail on the head.
I have been critical of Paul Chryst for being too cute, when the running game was working and starting to wear down the defense, by passing too much but I think he'd be a big improvement as head coach. And I was one of those who was happy to see Bielema leave and Andersen arrive. Chryst supposedly will bring back some of the old gang, Joe Rudolph and Bob Bostad.

"Look who he circles himself with," Pelini said of Eichorst. "Look at his team of people. C'mon, man. I'd rather f------ work at McDonald's than work with some of those guys. Not that there's anything bad about working at McDonald's."

I like Pelini for being honest but it was inappropriate to say it in a team meeting.
In other news, Pitt fired its AD after the coach left. Is he being blamed for not signing Chryst to a contract extension before this season, for not having a higher buyout amount, or just in general "to go in a different direction?"

I opened a new screen name at jsonline and made an innocuous comment which immediately brought two clueless replies from internet tough guys. What a joke some Wisconsin fans are.

Checking later to find several people sided against the internet tough guys. I stirred up a pot in my first post.

@badgersforevermore-Bart Houston might as well transfer to Whitewater.

Lol, although Western Illinois is where Badgers usually go. But Bart Houston says he likes the engineering school and doesn't want to leave.
