Re: 2013 NCAA Football Thread
Well, the OSU fans weren't holding up "Hey ACC, you mad" signs on Gameday Saturday. Like it or not, there is a huge rivalry bordering on hatred between the B1G and the SEC fanbases and OSU and Alabama are likely the best or near the best teams -not to mention the faces- of their respective conferences. It makes so much sense for them to play, of course it won't happen.
Further, there was so much chatter all year prior to two weeks ago about how OSU deserved to be in the NC game over Alabama/FSU. I wish that we could put that theory to the test.
All due respect to the NC game and Clemson/OSU, but Bama/OSU would have probably been the highest rated game of the year.

I don't really care much about any of those teams. I just think those games should be the best matchups available, not lopsided games with no real reason to tune in. I thought the point of this whole thing was to sort out the heirarchy of the best teams from the best conferences. Baylor could have pretty easily played in the title game and now they face UCF? I would have gone Bama-OSU, Baylor-Clemson and OU-UCF if those are the teams involved. Oregon would have been better than OU or Clemson, though.Popeye_Card wrote:I guess it depends on who you hate more and want to see beaten down by Alabama.cardsfansince82 wrote:Wouldn't Alabama-Ohio State and Clemson-Oklahoma make so much more sense from a fan perspective?

How much does this stuff change once the playoff starts? At that point, can these bowls just take whoever they want, beyond whatever conference affiliation they prefer?

Here's a pretty fun look at how the playoffs could shake out using this year's teams, across a variety of models:

32 teams would be fun as hell... and pure insanity.

I'm just saying that Bama is going to destroy whoever they play. They're probably the best team already, and they're probably pretty pissed about losing to Auburn. So that is going to be a blowout game no matter what.cardsfansince82 wrote:I don't really care much about any of those teams. Except that all year that has been this built up argument in the media, between fanbases, between everyone really, about how big of a shame it would be to leave an undefeated OSU team out in favor of an undefeated Bama/FSU team. Well, up until 2 weeks ago anyway that argument was going on. Now, for what seemed to be an impossible argument to settle on the field, it could have been....that argument that had been going on for 2 months could have taken place on the field. No one was arguing who was a better team between Clemson and OSU or Alabama and OU. Just because Alabama lost to Auburn and OSU lost to MSU doesn't mean that for months people didn't argue it. It would have been fun to have that at one point major story line of college football settled in a game instead of a computer.

Do they really need to play the game though? tOSU would get crushed by Bama. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves. Any tOSU fan who would want to see it is a sadist.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Except that all year that has been this built up argument in the media, between fanbases, between everyone really, about how big of a shame it would be to leave an undefeated OSU team out in favor of an undefeated Bama/FSU team. Sure they do. Of all the available teams (ie, not tied by conference to a bowl) tOSU makes by far the most sense to play Alabama, who isn't as invincible as you make them out to be.Popeye_Card wrote:

You may have been consistent but the national media as well tOSU fanbase definitely thought they were deserving from what I saw everywhere all over the place this year on rather they should be in a NC game over an undefeated Alabama or even a 1 loss Auburn/Alabama team.
Maybe all that changes with a loss to mi state and they no longer want to play good teams because they've become afraid and realize they were wrong all year with 1 game, but there was no doubt they wanted to play in the NC championship game as of Sat morning because they thought they belonged to be there.
Now they should be afraid to play Alabama after posturing all year about how they deserved to be in the NC game? That's silly.
I still stand by my statement that an Alabama/tOSU game would have more viewers and higher ratings than the FSU/Auburn game will get. Everyone wants to see that game that I know. Why wouldn't you, it's two of the best teams in the nation.

It really has nothing to do with what OSU fans think. Of course they love their team, and believe they deserved to be in the NC game. Every fan in their position would have thought that. And I don't think that Popeye is implying that OSU is "afraid" to play anyone. All he's saying is that whoever gets Alabama is probably going to get spanked.
Most fans who follow college football pretty much understand that Alabama is quite a bit better than Ohio State.............. so I don't think they're necessarily dying to see it decided on the field.
