Apparently Bob was sending a little bit of a message to Landon to up his game and show him he's not an automatic selection. He did this with Clint two years ago before the Confed Cup. He will absolutely start v Mexico.
Lichaj sucked? As with the Charlie Davies thing, I have no idea what games you're watching. The way he stretches the field, gives our attack width and still has the speed and strength to deal with fast or strong wingers tracking back is an element this team hasn't had for a long time. He's obviously still young, playing out of position and has a lot to learn, but his addition at left back which allowed Bocanegra to move to center back is the single most significant tactical change Bob has made all tournament.
He attacks just fine. His defending leaves a lot to be desired. He's fast enough to make up for his mistakes, but I'd rather see Bocanegra out left, and Ream back in the middle(I know, I know, Ream's sucked too, but I like his potential more).
And Davies still sucks!
Well our left back situation is finding the tallest midget and granted I tend to be optimistic about our players, but I like his pedigree (Aston Villa youth system and reserves), I like his talent and I don't mind some growing pains adjusting to the new position on his off-foot.
I also think we'd see more Ream if we had a more experienced right sided center back partner like Gooch in his prime.

Yeah, but Lichaj reminds me of Spector, who was a Man U youth. While Lichaj is faster and better on the ball, Spector is better marking. Either way, solid players, but nothing I'm overly excited about. They're no Chiellini, Puyol, or Lahm.

Buenos Aires to possible disturbances related to an important soccer
match. On Sunday June 26th at 1500 hrs, soccer clubs River Plate and
Belgrano from Córdoba will play a match at River Plate Stadium in Buenos
Aires. The match is expected to conclude at about 1630 hrs.
There will be a heavy police presence and some 50,000 fans are expected
at the game. The police will begin closing roads in the area at about
1100 hrs and heavy road congestion should be expected for many hours
following the game as River fans may remain in the streets after the
match in the immediate area or other areas throughout Buenos Aires.
Significant traffic delays can be expected on Libertador and General
Paz, as well as other roads in the area.
Local media have reported that more than 600 individuals have clashed
with riot police at the River Plate stadium in recent days in advance of
Sunday's match. Other disturbances have been reported in Córdoba.
Given the stakes, this soccer game will be an emotionally charged event
for a large number of fervent River fans. Depending on the outcome, the
situation could get out of hand and hooligans may confront police and/or
destroy property.

The fact the Freddy is starting the biggest non-world cup game we have after playing 30 good minutes in one game in three years and that Bedoya has played in every win in this tournament after initially being left off the roster is a damning indictment of Bob's player evaluation skills.
