It makes more sense.Arthur Dent wrote: ↑August 26 21, 11:16 amInteresting. Thanks.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote: ↑August 26 21, 10:03 amThose patients at the sister VA are being tested regularly and if positive being transferred to the covid ward where Mrs. AW is working regardless of symptoms and housed in the med surge. So, I was wrong. They do have asymptomatic patients hospitalized in the med surge that have other issues for which they are being treated. They're returned to the sister VA when negative and no symptoms show up.
The CDC has ~25% of “breakthrough” hospitalizations as asymptotic i.e. in the hospital for other reasons but tested because they are there, but if the hospital is drawing from an extremely vulnerable vaccinated population, I can imagine that would result in significant cases both symptomatic and not.
I don't mean this as a call out, but it's illustrative that Karp or Gantz would readily jump on something like that, a ~100 person sample, screen shot from a VA in Arkansas, with limited information on potential selection bias over reams of national data made up of really large numbers because it fits a preconceived notion.

Re: Coronavirus
I'll admit to being taken aback when first seeing the numbers and giving credence to them because to me the information is as reliable as anything anywhere. AGain, I'm getting it from Mrs. AW and I know she's not sharing some sort of bias information or editing any pics she's sending. I can forward the emails from now on if anyone really wants them. Not sure a forwarded email is any more trustworthy than a screen shot though, both can be manipulated if one were really inclined, not that I have.
Anyway, back to giving them credence, there was no other data available in July and the US other than some general statements about 'since the beginning of the year' which is less apropos than an instantaneous shot of what is happening as the delta variant plays out.
Since then, multiple sources of data have become available that show the vaccine is still effective at preventing hospitalizations and death even against the delta variant. Which we should be happy about. Both that data is trickling out and that it's good news.
