So if the used game fee is true, surely Gamestop is up [expletive] creek? Resale values dropping due to the "reactivation fee" is going to discourage a lot of people from selling their games to Gamestop (who already pays very little for used games even though they sell them for just a smidge cheaper than new copies).

We're at a pretty high point of diminished returns for consoles. To get much better graphics engines will end up taking 10 years to develop.Michael wrote:Anyone else find the graphics upgrade disappointing?
The big change you'll see with this new generation is memory. Load times should be considerably less.

I don't know. I think MS is releasing a souped up cable box. The Killzone 4 PS4 demo looked way better than anything we saw today. That CoD demo they showed looked terrible.
I'm a huge XBox fan and I was sorely disappointed with the reveal today.

Yeah, Gamestop is [expletive] if this is true:
And now apparently they've confirmed that you have to be signed on to Live at least once a day:
Shouldn't be a problem logistically for most people but this sets a terrible precedent.
http://kotaku.com/you-will-be-able-to-t ... -509140825But what if you want to bring a game disc to a friend's house and play there? You'll have to pay a fee—and not just some sort of activation fee, but the actual price of that game—in order to use a game's code on a friend's account. Think of it like a new game, Harrison says.
"The bits that are on that disc, you can give it to your friend and they can install it on an Xbox One," he said. "They would then have to purchase the right to play that game through Xbox Live."
"They would be paying the same price we paid, or less?" we asked.
"Let’s assume it’s a new game, so the answer is yes, it will be the same price," Harrison said.
But that doesn't mean used games are dead. In fact, Harrison told us, you'll be able to sell your Xbox One games online.
And now apparently they've confirmed that you have to be signed on to Live at least once a day:
http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-does-require ... -509164109Kotaku: If I’m playing a single player game, do I have to be online at least once per hour or something like that? Or can I go weeks and weeks?
Harrison: I believe it’s 24 hours.
Kotaku: I’d have to connect online once every day.
Harrison: Correct.
Shouldn't be a problem logistically for most people but this sets a terrible precedent.

i really shouldn't ever have an issue with always on, but i hate the idea and you know, sometimes my internet goes out or acts funky...realize its a 1st world problem but i really hate the idea that it always needs some sort of assurance you are online. obviously still need to get new info and whatnot but i may very well switch to ps4 or just quit all together which is probably what i should do. honestly, the thing that bugs me the most about switching to ps4 is having to sign up and register and do all these things with them so another company has my info. but again, 1st world problem.
as far as technical specs and all that, that kinda goes over my head anyways...im assuming they are both similar (and both won't be as powerful as an up to date computer).
the presentation yesterday did look smooth (the voice controls and switching between apps) but i also have no interest or need in that. i would only use those "features" because im forced to, not because i think its so much more helpful. the controller has always worked in the past. i've also heard you'd need a particular receiver for the live tv switch thing to work (and i don't have cable tv so its even more moot).
i do wish it was still just a "gaming console". i do like having netflix and mlb.tv available but thats about it. so many other things i don't need or want. and im wondering if the kinect device is being forced on us. if they had a model that didn't include the kinect i'd be more receptive to that but im guessing its part of the deal, thus we have to pay more.

Re: The Video Game Thread
Just by myself, I'm probably using it for games only about 25% of the time now. My family as a whole uses it for gaming about 10% of the time. I've got it and the AppleTV and I'd say the Xbox is actually a better experience overall, so I'm kind of on board with where they're headed. It should be noted that the reveal was for the media at-large. I'm curious what they'll be showing off at E3 for gaming.
I thought this was good news, though I'm not big into multi-player.

The Blu-ray is nice too. One less piece of hardware I'll need. Just hope the price isn't too high.stable, dedicated servers for every multiplayer game rather than the notoriously fragile practice of hosting matches on one participant’s console; even multiplayer matches that can grow to 64, even 128 participants, rather than the usual limit of 16 or 32.
