Two Brothers brewery Cane and Ebel - had made me a liker of a red rye ale.

New Holland Dragon's Milk and Ballast Point Victory at Sea Vanilla Porter for me.

Wife is drinking Ommegang Rare Vos and Schlafly Christmas Ale. We are down in Springfield MO for the holidays, so we can get Schlafly for once. The local grocery store still had four cases of Schlafly Pumpkin Ale available, so methinks I will buy a case or two to bring back to the Twin Cities with us when we head out tomorrow morning.

Excel Brewery (Breese IL) has at least one good one-the Winter Warmer-English style pale ale. Not sure if that place has a tasting room, nevertheless I think So iLL has hit a critical mass of breweries where I need to pay a visit. Stubborn German, Big Muddy, Scratch. Etc

Another list, Beer Advocates best new breweries 2016

Narrow Gauge Brewery in Florissant MO -made the list. I never heard of it.
Also, I see Side Project has opened a brewery space in Maplewood.

Anyone been?

Brutal to look at and talk about this in Drynuary. Alas a 2017 goal - check out every brewery in St. L area that I haven't to . Except maybe that one in Maryland Heights in the old Fudruckers along 270.

Bent Brewstillery "Dark Fatha"
Ballast Point "Red Velvet"
Prairie "Bomb"

I did the Prairie Bomb last time, and it was just as enjoyable this time. The Red Velvet was [expletive] disgusting - the beet flavor was flat out overpowering. The description says "Chocolate flavor and aroma. Added beets give it a rich, earthy character and red color." Well it was red, and I guess "rich earthy character" is another way of saying it tastes like dirt. So technically they weren't lying, although I did not get any chocolate flavors.

That Red Velvet was the only one poured that was under 12% ABV. And it was awful. Never ever again.

Still, it was worth the $20 for 3oz pours of the other three high gravity stouts. They were all fantastic, each for different reasons.
