Hopefully our minds aren't blown in November by a $500 price for the XBXO 720.Jocephus wrote:i saw a commercial a few days ago, brand new xbox $99. blew my mind.
I'm hoping it's $299...

I'd get it if it was $299. I'll probably get it eventually anyway once a new Forza is released but I'd get it early if it was under 300.robbotis wrote:Hopefully our minds aren't blown in November by a $500 price for the XBXO 720.Jocephus wrote:i saw a commercial a few days ago, brand new xbox $99. blew my mind.

The PS3 I just bought was $299. The new (standard) Xbox will be $400 and the new (standard) PS4 will be $500. There will be cheaper options with tiny harddrives, but the first holiday prices for the console you'll want will be up there. I agree with waiting a generation before buying a new console. I'll use the new PS3 for at least 18 months, which should give the PS4 time to come out with the second generation.IMADreamer wrote:I'd get it if it was $299. I remember, back in the late 90's, I saw a Genesis or a Super Nintendo at Wal-Mart for like $50 new. This was after Playstation/N64 were out and they were on their last legs. It just blew my mind to see it so cheap.Jocephus wrote:i saw a commercial a few days ago, brand new xbox $99. blew my mind.

Isn't it rumored that the new XBox is going to offer subscription pricing as an option to subsidize a lower initial cost? Similar to getting a cell phone cheaper if you sign a two year contract.
I doubt either the console will be cheaper than what the Wii U is right now ($300/$350) unless they're following the subscription model with Live/PSN+. Maybe even a cable contract if the other rumors are true.

hadn't heard that. only things i'd heard were that the new console wouldn't "allow" used games to play and it wouldn't be backwards compatible. and i don't know what % of truth those have.

Re: The Video Game Thread
That was the original rumor about the 720, but it sounds like they have pushed back on that a bit. PS4 has come out and said explicitly that they will not require "always on DRM" but that their goal is to get rid of game discs. The coolest function I saw was the "share" button for PS4. Push a button on your controller and you upload a stream to friends that will allow them to watch you play live. There's speculation about their ability to interact with you while you play, but even without that, it sounds awesome.Jocephus wrote:hadn't heard that. only things i'd heard were that the new console wouldn't "allow" used games to play and it wouldn't be backwards compatible. and i don't know what % of truth those have.

Re: The Video Game Thread
I bought a 360 at launch for $299 and I think there was a better one for $399. That was 8 years ago so $400 for the new one isn't bad. I probably won't buy one right away, but mostly because I don't game that much anymore.
Not only are there bugs/lemons to deal with at launch, but most of the early games suck. Usually takes awhile before developers adjust to the new specs, especially on sports games.
