Raniel makes Brett Wallace look svelte.

He’s a 1B/DH all the way.
lol no

he's not even 200 lbs (5'10")...and he's only 19.

Have you looked at his proportions? Him only being 19 doesn’t bode well.

I mentioned upthread but seeing him in person, Brett Wallace is who I thought of first. Whatever he weighs a great deal of it is between the waist and the knees.

So Memphis lost yesterday after being up 4-3 going into the 9th. Noah Mendlinger, an OF, was brought in to pitch in the 9th and they lost 8-4

Interesting question being asked over on Bluesky, and I'm editing out some of the rejoinders which basically say AAA game, late season, doesn't matter, etc...:

What is Bloom doing with the pitching here? How does one MLB DH reverberate down to this? Yes Mason Molina didn’t give you many innings but still this is nuts
But that lack of depth, such as we saw in Cincy and now Memphis, concerns me in the same way we saw a lack of depth rear its head in the latter Mo years.
This is one response:
I think they have an assessment of pitcher health that dictates what they're doing and that has implications on MLB roster changes as well. Could be one or both. At the end of the day, losing a AAA game doesn't matter to STL
And reply from him:
That’s fine but none of this is news, it was in the forecast and that Bloom just sat on his hands is disconcerting

They may as well forfeit after the 8th if this is the solution. It’s embarrassing even if it’s inconsequential

....

It’s not the W/L that’s problematic

If the AAA team is running short and the bullpen usage in Cincy was weird despite the DH being on the calendar for a while, where are innings going to come from if someone gets hurt?

Not maintaining depth the same way Mo failed to is a red flag

I have been saying for years the engine on the Memphis shuttle should rarely, if ever, go cold

Now I’d add the waiver wire shuttle to that

Yankees just got Eli Morgan, Tyler Kinley is in DFA limbo and would help the major league pen

Mo era “get by with…” mantra remains…
Minor league teams do not have a goal of winning first. That's not what it's for.

This isn't aimed at you, just the discussion point. I've beat this drum for years.

Fans in those areas get excited when they're winning, but coaches at those levels are goi g to put actual prospects in all sorts of situations to see how they respond. Whereas if they were a college team etc. they'd be maximizing win probability.

The AAA team has a very structured plan on pitch count, pitch frequency, and usage. They'll use a fan out of the stands before they'll go away from those plans.

I’m not 100% sure what he was advocating. He seems to get the loss means nothing. I think he was suggesting they should be cycling through waiver pickups and eating whatever the relatively small cost is. Seemed mostly like frustration that the AAA and MLB club have the same shortages.
