Baseball (and even competitive softball) can be physically rigorous, but then you have games where it's not so much. Thus, baseball as a means for getting in great shape is tough, because even on day where you aren't involved in much action - you drain your acuity. It takes a tough SOB to muster up the mental/physical energy to get in some sort of a workout between games-though it is wise to do something.jim wrote:Softball is pretty laid back, but baseball? Re: Getting into shape
I now have the dubious honor of winning my company's "Biggest Loser" contest two years in a row.
2013-265lbs to 222lbs
2014-241lbs to 207lbs
Apparently I have lots of discipline for 1/4 of the year and no discipline at all for 3/4.
I don't want to win it next year.

Is there a prize? It sounds like you have the perfect long con.

Anyone that runs more than 3 miles is insane. There is just no sense in that whatsoever.TimeForGuinness wrote:...or stop being a wuss with this warrior dash/mud run where you have to wait in line to do an obstacle...and start trail running/running long distances.jim wrote:Softball is pretty laid back, but baseball? Dunit, and half the game you're still sitting on a bench or maybe coaching 3rd base. And probably half or more of the balls are hit down the line or on the ground. Not to say you don't run, but you're not consistently active enough that your heart rate is elevated to a purposeful level.TimeForGuinness wrote:You should play CF for softball...all you do is sprint.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:I don't think softball, no matter how intense the games are, is a workout. Same for baseball. Sure, you get some sprints in, but not enough on a regular basis to really count as a workout. IMO. It's fun, and better than sitting on the couch, but I wouldn't say it's better than 30 minutes on a treadmill or anything like that.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeit partner, you're still down 58 pounds over 2 years; that's nothing to sneeze at. Nice job.Sutter'sBeard wrote:I now have the dubious honor of winning my company's "Biggest Loser" contest two years in a row.

Re: Getting into shape
I have lost 59 pounds since 2012.
Not sure how I did it. I constantly drink water and run once a week on an eliptical and lift once a week but that's it. Not a whole lot of diet change.
I think a lot of it has to do with stress.
Lowest weight I've been since 2005.
