Going to drink the Octoberfests as long as I can. Better stock up with a few. Anyhow, I really like, no surprise, Ayinger. Urban Chestnut Oachasloawifbbf is good, but frankly Schlafly's did a better Octoberfest this year. One of the best.
. I dont get drawn to Schlaflys aa much as I should. As much as I don't like to admit, some of it is marketing (and proliferation of their less good products at the grocer...be gone you awful Summer Lager).
In their defense, they are kind of stuck with this approach. Cant start calling Schlafy Pale Ale -Schlafly (insert clever name)

Kidding aside, Hallelujah, it's doppelbock season and hop season, so the wet-hopped beers are coming out. Pretty happy to start drinking Celebrator, Weihenstephaner Korbinian, Schlenkerla Eiche. Am hoping to get a keg of Dark Horse Perkulator Coffee Doppelbock this year.

Upland in Indiana has a wet-hopped sour called Hopsynth that is incredibly good but kinda expensive. A 5.16G keg is going for $160, and 12-pack cases of 330mL bottles is like $56 wholesale but if you find a bottle on a shelf it's worth the price. Really delicious, not too hoppy, you get some of the hop on the nose but the palate is all yeast and tart and dry. Founders Harvest Ale was really great this year, we were only able to score one keg and it went in a day, people loved that one.

This is probably my favorite beer 'season'.

Had a bottle of Unibroue La Fin Du Monde last night. Not my favorite Belgian style, but still really really good.

Done well, they're great. Good Beer Hunting in Chicago does an annual festival of coffee and beer and coffee beers, with roasters and brewers working in collaboration on beers and some are meh and some are grand slams. Paul Schneider at Solemn Oath works with Intelligentsia every year on this and puts out several coffee beers for the fest and they rule. 5 Rabbit did a beer with cascara (the fruit around a coffee bean) and it was uh-may-zing. The Goose Island coffee BCS is great. But more, to me, suck than are good.

I'm not generally into them and don't buy them for home.

Beer geeks seem to nerd out on them so I do buy them for the bar.

Only time I drink coffee beers is on tap. Perennial Sump is a good one.

WHAT?? Unibrow makes great beers and FDM is one of the best.

Don't get me wrong! It's great! Worth every penny! But Westmalle is better.
