You really can't act like the democrats haven't used their fair share of inflammatory, derogatory language in recent elections. They put a no-holds-barred smear campaign on Bush the last eight years, and it's not like democratic party hacks have been mincing words against McCain or Palin.
Can you give me three good things that Bush has done over the last 8 years for this country? I'm not trying to bash the guy, but I don't see a whole lot of good.

I keep hearing discussion about drilling in the ANWR but McCain is against it. Palin is for it, but as far as I know, McCain has not changed his position (I hope he doesn't cave in to the rabid calls from the far right on this issue too).

Fat - I think people are smarter than you're giving them credit for. You can't stand up on that podium and say that people are tired of yelling and implore about wanting to treat your opponent with respect while sending up speeches like those delivered by Lieberman and Giuliani at your convention. I know it's his strategy to let all his surrogates do the nastiness, but people know it's his strategy.

Any Democrat who challenges Palin on her daughter's pregnancy is indeed going into the gutter and should be called on it, although if someone points out the importance of sex education and birth control and ways to prevent unplanned pregnancies (things that apparently Palin opposes) these are issues that are fair to discuss.

I thought Cindy McCain's speech was easily the best one of the RNC. In fact, she was the only person on the stage that came off as remotely likable, besides McCain himself.

We're considered "in play" by Obama's people. Particularly if Obama maintains a lead or it's a tie in the national polls.

The national polls are getting a lot of talk, but has anyone broken down the state by state polls, and then added up the delegates? Obama's people have mentioned it, but they don't really have to lead the national polls. They need to lead the big delegate states, where I imagine they're doing fairly well.
My opinions from the state polls with the # of electoral votes on right:
Alaska-Strong JM 3
Alabama-Strong JM 9
Arkansas- strong JM 3
California strong BO 55
Co-toss 9
CT strong BO 7
DC strong BO 3
DE strong BO 3
FL lean JM 27
HI strong BO 4
IA strong BO 7
IL strong BO 21
IN lean JM 11
KS strong JM 6
KY strong JM 8
LA strong JM 9
MA strong BO 12
MD strong BO 10
ME strong BO 4
MI lean BO 17
MN lean BO 10
MO lean JM 11
MS strong JM 6
MT toss 3
NC lean JM 15
ND lean JM 3
NE strong JM 5
NH lean BO 4
NJ strong BO 15
NM lean BO 5
NV toss 5
NY strong BO 31
Ohio toss 20
Ok strong JM 7
OR strong BO 7
PA lean BO 21
RI strong BO 4
SC strong JM 8
SD lean JM 3
TN strong JM 11
TX strong JM 34
UT strong JM 5
VA toss 13
VT strong BO 3
WA strong BO 11
WI lean BO 10
WV strong JM 5
WY strong JM 3

With those calculations:
BO 197 strong electoral votes
JM 114 strong electoral votes

BO 77 lean electoral votes
JM 78 lean electoral votes

50 votes extremely up for grabs.
I counted:
197 strong BO
122 strong JM
67 lean BO
70 lean JM
50 toss
32 missing

Drilling in Anwr is hardly a far right position.

One of the main reasons that Indiana is in play this year is because of the large concentration of population in northwest Indiana (Chicago suburbs who get and watch Chicago television stations).

I didn't mean to sound like drilling in ANWR was a far right position...if I did, I apologize. I was looking at it as a cost vs. benefit in terms of price at the pump and a risk vs. reward with concerns to the environment.

IMHO, it doesn't add up to me.

I think AK's post was directed at me. I should clarify... I just mean that the delegates at his convention are screaming for it, and I'm hoping that McCain doesn't just shift his position on this because of that. I don't put a lot of stock in polls like the one you cited because to me it's obvious that when you poll people about drilling in places several thousand miles away while their prices have tripled at the pump, you're gonna get that kind of response.
