Usually I like porn without a plot, just gets in the way. But they've really made it work with Game of Thrones.

Haunting. Will never watch again.
Somehow, I loved and wasn't nearly as disturbed by Black Swan.

Way out of date, but I just started re-watching the first season of Spartacus, in anticipation of pirating the newest one.
I remembered liking it the first time, but the second time through has been great. Only in a different way - I can't stop laughing at it. Now that I know how corny it is, and am expecting each line, it continues to amaze me with its absurd over-the-topiness. What an awesome freakin' show.

Watching that episode made me realize even more how much of a hack Terry Goodkind is as an author. I didn't realize he also stole the whole "stick a rat in a bucket, attach the bucket to their chest, and heat the bucket with fire so the rat will eat through their skin and muscle" method of torture from the ASOIAF book series. Based on how much that [expletive] godawful author loved his weird pervert sex and torture scenes (I only made it through the first 5-6 books, mostly because my friends thought he was the best author ever and kept forcing me to read them), I had (wrongly) assumed he thought of the rat thing by himself. Obviously not. There's no telling how many more weirdo scenes there are in the later books that he also stole from GRR Martin.go birds wrote:Whew ok. Goodkind is absolutely the most mocked of any mainstream author of any genre I know of. He's an incomprehensible douche. Insists he's never read other fantasy, and that in fact his books are not fantasy at all. It's depressing that his stunningly terrible books became TV shows at all, but at least they're equally stunningly bad, while everyone and their aunt loves Game of Throens.

Now that I've finally watched that episode--isn't that what happened?Did anyone else (who hadn't already read the books) think that Joffrey was gonna make the one hooker shove that thing up the other hookers butt?
Also, doesn't that business with the rats go back to "1984"?

In other TV news--
1. "Veep", that HBO show with Julia Louis-Dreyfus as VPOTUS, is hilarious.
2. For people who are curious about what shows like "Rome" and "Spartacus" are ripping off, the original "I, Claudius" is running on PBS. Can't say exactly where it's on in your market but on mine it's airing Saturday night. There was a new DVD release recently so this must be tied to that.
