We got word Sunday that the last of my wife's aunts/uncles died. Which means our generation is the next to die off. woohoo
My mother's still hanging on. I think she is the last of that generation in either my mother's or father's family. On the other hand, my oldest first cousin has pancreatic cancer, so it's beginning with my generation, too.

I've been dealing with my parents' declines and deaths for 8 years now. I don't know how I'll feel once she passes.

Albert Pujols said he'll know when to retire.

Pujols is under contract through 2021 but insisted that money won't be a factor in whether he continues playing. "The day that I feel like I can't compete in this game anymore, it doesn't matter how much money I'm going to leave on the table," said the former MVP. "To embarrass yourself and not be able to compete—dude, that's not me."
he's getting close to have his career BA dip below .300

crazy he's still never struck out 100 times in a season, even though he's a shell of his STL days

He's obviously 3 years older than he says too.

The recent proliferation of defensive shifts has made it exceedingly difficult for power hitters to turn batted balls into hits, prompting an infatuation with launch angles and breeding a widespread acceptance of strikeouts. Few have been victimized more than Pujols, the aging slugger who still makes frequent contact but no longer runs well.

From 2015 to 2018, Pujols has accumulated a whopping 403 hard-hit outs, putting balls in play that travel at least 95 mph. Nobody has more. His average exit velocity is 90.3 mph, ranked fourth among those with at least 1,700 batted balls during that stretch, according to Statcast. His batting average on balls in play is .245, tied for the lowest in the majors among qualified hitters during that time.
Maybe he should ask Marp for some hitting advice against the shift

Pujols has to be the slowest base-running regular in the majors. If he doesn't hit it out of the infield, it's a certain out.

He is the absolute slowest next to Yadi and Brian McCann:

Most people in their 20s-30s can skip faster than 22 ft/second

Wonder if a RF would embarrass Pujols on a hard single to right.

Is it possible for Machado to be NL MVP only being in the NL half the season? I think he passes Carpenter in the end.

It's a shame there's an "NL MVP" in 2018 when the AL has 5 guys deserving over the Carpenter tier of players. Carpenter getting it while one of Betts/Trout not getting it feels weird.
