If you’re going to use Stanek then it needs to be when Oli used Soriano when we were losing

Soriano is not a great reliever. He looks really good in the context of the [expletive] they have out there. He has a 24/10 strikeout to walk ratio. He's just a guy on most good teams.cardsfantx wrote: ↑June 12 26, 10:04 pmYou’re making my pointjagtrader wrote: ↑June 12 26, 10:01 pmThey were losing when Soriano's inning ended. Then the Cardinals batted forever and scored three runs. Managers aren't putting Soriano back out there to cover 10 outs in two days.cardsfantx wrote: ↑June 12 26, 9:56 pmLosing? We were winning BOTH innings when Stanek was brought in? Are you talking about someone else?jagtrader wrote: ↑June 12 26, 9:54 pmMost managers aren't going to ask a pitcher to cover multiple innings on back-to-back days, especially a high-leverage guy in a game the Cardinals were losing. That's a lot of up and down and you need to be careful with the few guys out there who are half-decent.
Soriano is your best reliever; he should only be used in games that you’re winning close or closing out games
No; we were losing when Soriano was brought in; he should never have been pitching then as he’s your best reliever. That’s she you use Stanek if you’re goin to use him.
Good point about leahy. Cards were lucky to escape the 5th with the lead. Oli was more focused on the pitch count than trusting his eyes. Leahy was done. Cost the cards 2 runs in the 6th.CardsofSTL wrote: ↑June 12 26, 9:34 pmI don't like to pick on Oli as much as others but tonight there were several head scratchers.
Leahy didn't look great after sitting through the rain delay; then he sent him out there to face Buxton and the top of the order for the third time. Cardinals lose the lead.
Cardinals regain the lead. Graceffo is on the mound; yes he walked Buxton but that's better than giving up a hit to him. Oli brings in Stanek to face the LH hitter; so removes one RH for another RH and he promptly surrenders a homer to give up the lead.
Cardinals come back and get the lead; Oli leaves Stanek out there who gives up the lead on another homer; than the winning run on another homer.
You bring Soriano into the game in the 6th; you should leave him in for the 7th. Stank probably would have had a clean 8th to start with and who knows what happens there. Just weird choices.
And yes players have to execute but when they don't the manager needs to make moves.
Ok going to bed since you’re just talking dumb now (not saying you’re dumb)jagtrader wrote: ↑June 12 26, 10:07 pmSoriano is not a great reliever. Stanek has been great lately. He still sucks. But that's what they have. So that's what they used.
His ERA is a mirage. He's bad. bWAR uses ERA, which is folly.cardsfantx wrote: ↑June 12 26, 9:49 pmHe’s got a positive 1.1 bWAR; and Stanek is negativephins wrote: ↑June 12 26, 9:44 pmHe does have a negative fWAR. The regression is coming hard.cardsfantx wrote: ↑June 12 26, 9:44 pmGraceffo is not bad; like at all
Graceffo, Soriano, O’Brien (and JoJo and Fernandez when available) are the 3 guy with the lead. If you need a 4th, then it’s svanson, who’s not rebounding and pitching great like he did all of last year.
Are you going to stanek before him?
Or are you pulling him to put Stanek in?
I don't reply here much. But I'm hoping you weren't talking about Oli being "one of the best in the game."jagtrader wrote: ↑June 12 26, 9:32 pmHe’s one of the best in the game. I really don’t know what you people expect. It’s a [expletive] miracle this team has a winning record.
There's much more we do not see about being a manager than what we do see.
