On the bright side they are mathematically eliminated from setting the record for earliest clinch.

Maybe. Maybe not. The mystery is killing me!

(I really don't think the 2004 Cardinals were exhausted. I think the 2004 Cardinals did not have Carpenter available in the playoffs, which had a chain reaction down the SP and RP corps.)

(I also don't think that the 2011 Phillies were exhausted. I think we out-pitched them in that series, by the closest of margins. Thanks healthy Carp.)

(I miss Chris Carpenter.)
