DA said we need all 4 points this wknd for him to hold
So will def be interesting should we drop one of the games today or tomorrow
(Obv even if we win these 2 games, but then drop the next 2, he will still sell…I’m taking it as he’s got some things already in his back pocket lined up that he’s pulling the trigger on asap if we lose 1 or both)
I hadn’t seen that. When did he say it?
If true, we lost a point already, so here we go…

maybe I completely made it up lol; I searched and searched and cannot find anything!!
but I SWEAR I either heard or read DA says something along the lines that this wknd was our playoffs and will determine the course of action

Giving up a 6 on 5 goal has become commonplace for the Blues this season. Since Montgomery took over in late November, the Blues have been outscored 6-4 when the opposing team pulls the goalie. They are one of just two teams with a negative goal margin, and at minus-2, have the worst goal margin in the league during that span against an empty net.
That’s pathetic; the other team doesn’t have a [expletive] goalie in the net!!
We would be better off shooting it down the ice every single time we get the puck and try and score and risk icing, than what we are doing

I think it is a reflection of our generally older defensemen. 6-on-5 play requires a lot of quick, reactionary bursts defensively, which gets tougher as the legs get older.

hey we didn't give up a 6-5 shorthanded goal last night (even though it stayed in our end most of the time still)

I know a lot of the focus of trade speculation has been centered around the skaters that could go. Schenn has the most smoke. Kyrou would make a lot of sense if the return is good enough. I could also see teams sending lower draft picks for guys like Faksa and Suter.
But what about Binnington. Fresh off his 4 Nations triumph, his market might never be this high again... and if we're being honest, we most likely won't be realistic contenders again until he's past his prime. Does it make sense to trade him off to a team with actual contention possibilities that might be lacking at goalie?
I *HATE* to think of him on another team, but damn it might just be the best thing for us and him.

I would trade Binner in a heartbeat if the return is solid. Doesn't help the Blues any to have a goalie with a "clutch" reputation if they aren't going to have any clutch moments coming soon.

I would not...basically because we "SHOULD" be contenders next year (according to DA it was supposed be this year lol)
with snuggy and dvorsky on the team next year most likely, and a TON of salary cap space? We can sign the top FA if we wanted to (Rantanen?)...but of course it would be awesome to get a 2C, but I just don't see any. Sam Bennett is a FA but that doesn't move the needle for me, esp with what his contract will prob be...but if we can somehow find a legit 2C and let Dvorsky start down as a 3C? That is a contender next year with the growth of Holloway, Bolduc, etc
plus there's just something about hofer that I do not trust...I just don't see him as a legitimate #1 goalie in the NHL...too many early goals and softies for me (of course Binny has been giving up soft ones, but is clutch and unflappable when it really counts)...I know ellis is having a nice year in Springfield...but 2 young guys? I dunno

"SHOULD" be is the operative part of your opening sentence. The rest of your posts are a lot of IFs. What's the honest likelihood that we can address all the shortcomings and be able to reassert ourselves at the top of the conference in 2-3 years. IDK. I hope it's that fast, but I'm not convinced it will be.

I just don't see the Blues as legit cup contenders in the next 2 years, which is the extent of Binner's contract.
Goalies are always fleeting, and I know the Blues' history with finding that franchise goalie all too well. Of course we finally won a cup with an unknown rookie goalie. I still say if the return is right, take the prospects and the salary relief.
