When The Killing ended last season, I ranted and raged like a total self-righteous dick but made a lot of valid criticisms about how stupid and arrogantly that show handled the season, but when I saw a promo for it during Walking Dead last Sunday...I think I'm back in despite swearing to never, ever give it another chance.
I can't do it. I just can't do it. I'm sticking to my self-righteous dickery guns.
Unfortunately, I bet I'll watch too.
Walking Dead was awesome.
Gotta say, I love the balls. The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Boardwalk Empire, and mostly Game of Thrones, challenge and delight, by following through w/ real stories, where main people get whacked. They don't cop out, ehhheemmm Sons of Anarchy, and let a main charcter that in their own world have no chance of survival, live because they like the actor or charcter.

Sorry, Clay should have been dead a long time ago on SOA.Pissed me off that he lived to see the end of the season. It aired the same week as Nucky whacking Jimmy Darmody. If it wasn't all ready apparent, you were slapped in the face by the brilliance of Boardwald at that time.

I stayed up until 6AM last night watching Game of Thrones season 1. It's a good show but I'm not really crazy about it. I've started to prefer fantasy where the supernatural elements are more subdued, like in the movie Excalibur where 90% of the time Merlin comes off as a con artist pretending at magic. Still, definitely one of the better shows on TV, though I wonder whether I'll like it as much in season 2.

Brilliant decision casting your two biggest stars as guys who die at the end of season one, allowing you to use them to build up the series but then not having to pay them. Still, Sean Bean was about 75% of why I liked season one. There's basically two characters I really dislike (Both [expletive] kids), Peter Dinklage who is funny as hell, and then about three dozen characters I don't really care about.

Awake is pretty good. It's hard for me to picture where it could go in a long run though. It's probably going to get pretty weird, but that could go either way. I don't like the dark filters they shoot everything through.

I've said this before, but I wish more producers would set out to tell some stories in 24 or 48 hours or something, instead of just trying to get something to run as long as possible. I guess Game of Thrones would be an example of that, but having read (which sounds better than 'having listened to,' which is the actual truth) the first book, I'm pretty sure I won't find that series very gratifying. I'm hoping though, that the dragon girl isn't supposed to be 14 in the show as well, considering some of the things I've heard.

BTW, how the hell long was that book that it was made into a roughly 10 hour TV show where 75% of everything happened offscreen?

The book is about 860 pages, iirc. All the books in the series are about that long.

I don't recall if in the show the ages are explicitly given as older but everyone certainly looks a lot older than they're supposed to be in the books.

Yeah, I think you can add 3-4 years to all of the characters' ages from the book. Bran is supposed to be 8 and Jon and Robb are supposed to be 15. On the show they seem more like 12 and 18.

FWIW, I think the second book is much better than the first. There will be a lot more action on the show this season.

You would feel exactly the same way if you read the books. You're deep into book 1 and you only really care about Ned Stark -- Bean. His kids are all a bit whiny and immature. You love Tyrion because he's funny, but you know he's "the enemy". And you're ambivalent toward everyone else. I have just started watching season 1, so I don't know if the character who plays John Snow gets more sympathetic, but in the books he, Daenerys, and Tyrion become the real stars of book 2. And the Stark kids grow up fast.

I think I'm done with the Walking Dead. About 5 minutes into the most recent episode I could no longer take Rick and Shane staring glassy-eyed into space for minutes on end, Carl being annoying, and Lori's stupid face. It's the same episode every time and I no longer care whether any of them live or die.
