There is no doubt that people respect his sacrifice for our country, it's just that pertinent domestic issues have been neglected while fighting what some would consider an unjust war.
Shameless bump, but no one has a comment about this POW leverage rationale?

I'm getting worked up too. I'm sitting here with my wife who is a McCain supporter and I'm an Obama supporter. Grrr
I've started tuning McCain out. It's honestly just on my TV making noise now. I got bored to death.

We must stop Czar Putin!
I'm opposed to the eye roll icon, but this is where I would use it.

Wrong again. I'm not sure where you live, but here's what Gallup has to say the American people stand for:

Americans are pro-choice (67 percent)

Americans support the Geneva Conventions with regards to torture (57 percent)

Americans don't want the government snooping in their bank and internet records (67 percent)

Americans support protecting the environment at the expense of economic growth (55 percent)

Americans believe that global warming is happening (86 percent)

Americans believe that it's the government's responsibility to provide health care (69 percent)

Americans support the decriminalization of marijuana (55 percent) and support the legalization of medical marijuana (78 percent)

Americans are opposed to attacking Iran (68 percent, according to a CNN Poll)

Americans support labor unions (60 percent)

Americans want government funding of embryonic stem cell research (56 percent)

Americans believe rich people and corporations aren't paying enough taxes (66 percent)

You're right Snayke. Liberalism is the way to go! Now I see the light!

The POW thing is mentioned because it shaped him and because it puts him in the light of having formed his decision while being sympathetic to the tragedies of war. This isn't some favored son who's never faced horror and atrocity. Whether you agree with him or not, you do have to acknowledge that he has an understanding of the horror of war. That's why it is constantly highlighted.
Absolutely. But he also was right behind Bush in the run-up to the war in Iraq. That's the part that matters to me. I'm sure everyone in Iraq today has an understanding of the horror of war. It doesn't mean that they would have good judgment in making decisions about whether or not to lead us into another one.

Palin got me more worked up last night. I had a stiff drink afterwords.

I was sick at my stomach last Thursday. Consider yourself lucky to just be bored.

You just said that people like Obama because of the way he speaks, not because of what he stands for. I just showed you the American people do agree with what he stands for. You can choose to believe whatever you want, but it's false to say that people don't believe in the same things.

Way to rational and thoughtful of a post while the speech is happening. Right now we're in shrill partisan mode.
