I keep seeing this weird talking point amongst anti vax or anti maskers that the survivability rate is 99.8%. Not sure how that’s picked up so much steam when you can just do the math on 328 million.
That is the math, if you say that 327.4 million have survived out of 328 million. It is completely disingenuous, but the math is correct.
Eh, the way I see it the math would tell you that's wrong because clearly not even close to everyone has had it. Even if you say it's maybe double or triple the reported cases. I don't think that's the argument, but maybe it is.

I guess what I am saying is that the math is correct. Now the logic for what they use as the denominator is completely illogical, but if they want to state how much of the US population “survived” COVID I guess they would be correct.

But following the same logic, 9/11 wasn’t a big deal because it had a 99.997% survival rate. So why do we continue to have the Patriot Act, TSA, DHS, etc.?

Yeah, I get it. Just saying there's no indication they're working off population as their denominator. It just seems arbitrary. But if so, it'd be weird to assume nobody else is going to catch it and die from it.

This is going to keep snowballing I think. At least among larger cities.

You’re absolutely correct, we shouldn’t still have those useless agencies. It was proven that they already had credible intelligence from the in place agencies, and they failed at every level. So what’s the governments solution, add more levels of bureaucracy.

Here's the deal:

1) The vaccines are very effective, even against Delta and all current known variants.
2) Despite Delta being massively more contagious than Alpha, fully vaccinated people still have a low chance of contracting it.
3) If you do get a breakthrough infection, it will be much less severe than if you were unvaccinated.
4) Among the fully vaxxed that do contract Delta, they can indeed spread it to others, possibly as easily as unvaxxed people.

So naturally, the anti-vaxxers focus on #4 to say the vaccine is pointless, ignoring the benefits of 1-3.

Idk where this will drop on the video but whatever. New public health emergency in Arkansas pending the legislative approval due to...lack of hospital capacity. Lol.

Also, for the first time the doh released vax/nonvax numbers which fall in line with the general cdc consensus.

Though unless they’re are a metric [expletive] ton of kids skewing the numbers, I don’t trust them. It’s taken them almost a month since their last press conference to come up with this information. They discontinued the weekly pressers unannounced when the outbreak started and the numbers are way outside the ones I’ve seen. And even with 40% vaxxed we are seeing cases similar to our peak. [expletive] doesn’t make sense.

Only way it makes sense is if vaxxed people are transmitting if not getting sick.

Here’s the presser.

What is funny? I don't get the joke.

Do rural MO and AR unvaccinated rates not correspond to the outbreak and hospitalization rates?

FWIW, - the narrative that can be told to the public by public officials can be wrong. The boilerplate exceptions to every official statement would take two hours to read in every pronouncement. But who is going to read it. I didn't watch the presser for instance.

Are vaccines ineffective?
I guess it was more a snide lol than, hey, this is actually funny since we talked about it weeks ago that there was going to be a shortage of personnel this go around, and, a week later here we are.

Here's a screenshot from Mrs. AW's computer.

This is at a Veterans Affairs hospital, so, the age group is going to be higher and by definition should be only those over 18 as its for veterans.

Regardless, it's odd the numbers are so far off what is being cited by the Arkansas DOH. SSS, yes, and not much can be drawn as a conclusion. But that's a mighty big outlier. And, it accounts for approximately 3% of hospitalizations in Arkansas. The governor and DOH have been citing a 98% efficacy at preventing hospitalizations....

It may be that since the VA patients are more elderly, more are vaccinated and the the actual number of people vaxxed is more like 90% which makes these numbers look a lot better compared to the state which is 47/37 full/partial vaccinations.

Who knows.

ETA: The numbers the Arkansas DOH is using to cite a 98% efficacy against hospitalization is a cumulation of all hospitalizations going back to January 1st, 2021 - a time when almost no one, if anyone - was fully vaccinated. And, it includes the peak of hospitalizations seen in January and February, again, a time when almost no one was fully vaccinated. It's understandable people don't trust the data when presented in this form and borders on data manipulation to the point of dishonesty.

I'm guessing the FL Tourism Bureau doesn't want anyone to see that.
