Daniel Descalso went 2-for-5 and drove in three runs in a victory over the Pirates on Monday.
Descalso drove in a run with a run-scoring single off of Joe Musgrove in the seventh, and he gave the Diamondbacks big insurance runs an inning later with a two-run triple to extend the lead to 8-5. Descalso now owns a surprising .265/.361/.519 on the season, and he's driven in 34 runs over 58 games for the Diamondbacks this season. He's one of the more pleasant surprises of 2018.

Re: Former Cardinals Watch
Mike Leake allowed just one earned run, four hits and three walks with four strikeouts over six innings in a win against the Angels on Tuesday.
Leake threw 64 of his 101 pitches for strikes in the quality start, lowering his ERA for the fifth consecutive outing. His ERA has dropped from 6.00 to 4.26 just since May 15, as he has turned in five consecutive quality starts with a 3-0 record and 1.77 ERA since May 15. Leake is on pace for 17 victories, three more than his career best set back in 2013 as a member of the Cincinnati Reds. He'll look to stay hot in Sunday's series finale against Eduardo Rodriguez and the Red Sox.

I was legit happy to see this. I had no idea Daniel Descalso was still a thing.Jocephus wrote:

Neither did anyone else not named Daniel Descalso. Well, maybe Mrs. Descalso too.Michael wrote:I was legit happy to see this. I had no idea Daniel Descalso was still a thing.Jocephus wrote:

Nice to see the last MLB WWII vet have a late-career run.

Jason Motte has been hired as the director of player development for the University of Memphis baseball program.
That presumably means his playing days are over. Motte was in Cardinals camp this spring, but he got released on March 22 after allowing six runs on 13 hits and two walks over just 5 1/3 innings in the Grapefruit League. The 35-year-old right-hander finishes his career with a 3.30 ERA, 8.5 K/9, and 60 saves in 444 major league appearances. He won a World Series ring with St. Louis in 2011.
